Adviser for the Ministries of Finance and
\nPlanning of the newly-formed interim government Dr Salehuddin Ahmed today
\nsaid the country’s economy should have to be rejuvenated braving various
\nexisting economic challenges especially in the financial and banking sector.<\/p>\n

“The pace and operations of our businesses have slowed down while there are
\nvarious challenges in the economy including in the banking and financial
\nsector. We’ll have to rejuvenate our economy,” he said.<\/p>\n

Dr Salehuddin, also a former central bank Governor, said this while talking
\nto reporters after the allocation of portfolios of the chief adviser and other
\nadvisers of the interim government.<\/p>\n

Noting that it was the first priority of the interim government to restore
\nthe law and order situation across the country, he said they would also take
\nstrong strides to offset the impact that has been put on the lives and
\nlivelihood of the countrymen due to violence centering the recent anti-
\ndiscriminatory quota reform movement by the general students.<\/p>\n

The adviser also vowed to restore discipline in the banking sector, the
\nfinancial sector as well as in the capital market. “Insha Allah, we’ll try to
\nfix all those sectors.”<\/p>\n

Earlier, the chief adviser of the newly-formed interim government Dr Muhammad
\nYunus and 13 other advisers paid homage to the martyrs of the language
\nmovement by placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar here this morning.<\/p>\n

At first, Dr Yunus placed the wreath around 11:15 am amid light rain and
\nstood in solemn silence there for some time as a mark of profound respect to
\nthe memories of the language movement martyrs. Later, the other advisers of
\nthe newly-formed interim government also paid homage to the martyrs of the
\nlanguage movement by placing wreaths.<\/p>\n

Prior to that, the chief adviser and other 13 advisers paid homage to the
\nmartyrs of the Liberation War by placing wreaths at the National Memorial in
\nSavar.<\/p>\n

They stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to
\nthe memories of the martyrs of the 1971 War of Liberation.<\/p>\n

Nobel Laureate and globally acclaimed economist Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus was
\nsworn-in as the Chief Adviser of the interim government last night.<\/p>\n

He took over the responsibility three days after the fall of Awami League
