The European Union (EU) has welcomed the
\nswearing-in of the members of Bangladesh’s interim government, led by Nobel
\nlaureate Dr Muhammad Yunus.<\/p>\n
“The EU looks forward to engaging with the new administration and to
\nsupporting this critical transition which should be part of a peaceful and
\ninclusive process underpinned by good governance, democratic values and
\nrespect for human rights,” said the EU High Representative Josep Borrell
\nFontelles in a statement today.<\/p>\n
He said Bangladesh is now entering a period of transition and the interim
\ngovernment will have an important task to prepare the ground for democratic
\nelections and ensure accountability for the deaths and violence that have
\noccurred.<\/p>\n
“This is an important moment for the country’s democratic path and the
