{"id":10207,"date":"2024-08-12T21:39:57","date_gmt":"2024-08-12T18:09:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyenglishtimes.com\/?p=10207"},"modified":"2024-08-12T21:39:57","modified_gmt":"2024-08-12T18:09:57","slug":"foreign-adviser-seeks-international-support-for-bangladeshs-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyenglishtimes.com\/?p=10207","title":{"rendered":"Foreign Adviser seeks international support for Bangladesh\u2019s future"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"headline_content_block post_template-0\">\n<div class=\"headline_section mb-2\">\n<h4 class=\"font-weight-bold\">Staff Correspondent:<\/h4>\n<h4 class=\"font-weight-bold\">The interim government of Bangladesh today called for the continued support of the international community as it embarks on a new path for the nation, while assuring the safety and security of diplomats stationed in the country.\u201cWe believe that all our friends and partners in the international community would continue to stand by the interim government and our people as we embark on charting a new future for Bangladesh,\u201d Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain said while briefing foreign diplomats stationed in Dhaka at the State Guest House Padma here.He emphasized that the safety and security of diplomatic and consular premises, as well as foreign nationals residing in Bangladesh, will remain a top priority for the government.\u201cWe can assure that the safety and security of the diplomatic and consular premises and persons will remain one of our core priorities. We also remain sensitized to the need to ensure protection of all foreign citizens residing in our territory,\u201d he added.The adviser informed the diplomats that the government has taken quick and decisive measures to restore law and order and bring back normalcy across the country.\u201cIt (government) is pledge-bound to ensure safety and security of all religious and ethnic groups and will not tolerate any violence or intimidation against them,\u201d he said.\u00a0 The adviser highlighted that the most pressing task for the interim government is to restore overall law and order.\u201cWe are working on creating an environment conducive to the resumption of full-fledged police operations. The patriotic armed forces will continue to serve the nation responsibly as the situation demands,\u201d he said. Hossain said that the government would remain focused on a smooth transition to inclusive and pluralistic electoral democracy as soon as possible.He said Bangladesh now stands at the threshold of a new beginning while its young generation and people are aspired for a qualitative change, a meaningful reform, and a lasting transformation.\u201cWe feel deeply energized by the indomitable strength, courage and fortitude of our youth. It would be our role in the government to allow our young people to build a new Bangladesh following their dreams,\u201d he added. Hossain conveyed the interim government&#8217;s commitment to human rights, mentioning the inclusion of advisers with track records in this area.\u201cThe government is serious about human rights issues,\u201d he assured, explaining the context behind the formation of the interim government. Hossain said that the government is committed to upholding the independence of the judiciary and the freedom of press, including in the cyber domain. \u201cIn a drastically changed scenario, all political parties are now free to voice their views and opinions,\u201d he said.\u00a0 To reflect the desire of the people, including the youth, Hossain said, the government is committed to working on essential policy and institutional reforms towards ensuring a democratic and prosperous future for the country.\u00a0 \u00a0\u201cWe remain mindful of the pressing demand for security sector reform,\u201d said the adviser.\u00a0 \u00a0He also stressed the government&#8217;s commitment to justice and accountability for violence during the recent mass uprising, pledging to engage with international partners, including the UN, to facilitate independent investigations and judicial processes. The interim government, Hossain said, will focus on restoring macroeconomic stability, good governance, and combating corruption and mismanagement. \u201cWe have seen some early signs of renewed market confidence following the uprising,\u201d he added.He urged development partners, multilateral development banks, and international financial institutions to extend meaningful support to help Bangladesh overcome its economic challenges. The adviser also called on international trade and investment partners to maintain their trust in Bangladesh and collaborate to improve labour standards, environmental practices, and logistics efficiency. \u201cWe are confident that the interim government will continue to enjoy the unqualified support of our people and the international community,\u201d said the foreign adviser. The Rohingya issue was also discussed, as Hossain said that the government remains committed to supporting the Rohingyas and seeks ongoing international assistance for their humanitarian needs and sustainable repatriation.
