{"id":10573,"date":"2024-08-24T15:04:52","date_gmt":"2024-08-24T11:34:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyenglishtimes.com\/?p=10573"},"modified":"2024-08-24T15:04:52","modified_gmt":"2024-08-24T11:34:52","slug":"sayeeds-father-illusively-looks-for-dead-son-in-thousands-crowd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyenglishtimes.com\/?p=10573","title":{"rendered":"Sayeed&#8217;s father illusively looks for dead son in thousands crowd"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Staff correspondent :<\/p>\n<p>Mokhbul Hossain in an illusion looks<\/p>\n<p>for his son Abu Sayeed killed in police firing during the student-mass<br \/>\nupsurge as thousands of people irrespective of party affiliations,<br \/>\nprofessions, castes and creeds regularly visit the grave of the slain student<br \/>\nof Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur (BRUR) to pay respect to him and pray<br \/>\nfor eternal peace of his departed soul.<\/p>\n<p>Distressed engulfed Hossain as his son&#8217;s death made him so shocked, reluctant<br \/>\nand speechless forcing him merely to wait beside Sayeed&#8217;s grave.<\/p>\n<p>Sayeed&#8217;s father hardly stare from his son&#8217;s grave until prayers call is<br \/>\nannounced as he goes to mosques five times to offer prayers and make dua for<br \/>\nhis revolutionary son who didn&#8217;t bow down head to injustice, putting his<br \/>\nchest to embrace bullets stretching his two hands with just carrying a stick<br \/>\nin one hand, showing no apparent threat to anyone.<\/p>\n<p>While talking to BSS, Hossain attributed his son&#8217;s death to targeted killing<br \/>\nas he claimed that Sayeed was aimed due to his interview with media.<\/p>\n<p>He said, &#8220;Sayeed dreamt of to be an officer. He got scholarship since class<br \/>\nfive. He was very meritorious. He ranks second in the Rokeya University in<br \/>\nthe admission test&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Mother Monowara Begum burst into tears while talking about Sayeed. She said,<br \/>\n&#8220;I still think my son didn&#8217;t die. I always think my son is in dormitory or in<br \/>\ncollege. He will come home anytime and will call me &#8216;ma'&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>She remembered her son&#8217;s gift for all family members which he bought with the<br \/>\ntuition money earned during the last Eid. Begum said, &#8220;Sayeed was having a<br \/>\nbrick house built for us thinking that we were uncomfortable in the mud<br \/>\nhouse. I see Sayeed&#8217;s memory wherever I look at in the house&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Sayeed&#8217;s younger sister Sumi Khatun said her brother wanted to be &#8220;a big<br \/>\nofficer&#8221;. &#8220;Sayeed would say he will wipe away all sorrows of us. My brother<br \/>\nwould think about all of us. Today, many distinguished people come to my<br \/>\nbrother&#8217;s grave to offer prayer. We have pain but we are proud of my<br \/>\nbrother&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>She demanded the authorities to build and name a hall after her brother in<br \/>\nevery university, a separate university in Pirganj and a hospital that will<br \/>\nprovide treatment free of cost.<\/p>\n<p>Sayeed was born in a poor family in Babonpur village of Pirganj. Among nine<br \/>\nsiblings, he was only pursuing studies. He was a student of 12th batch of<br \/>\nEnglish department at BRUR.<\/p>\n<p>Relatives and neighbours helped him continue study at SSC and HSC level.<br \/>\nSayeed&#8217;s parents had thousands dream that one day their son will fill the<br \/>\nfamily with joys after finishing his education. But, their entire dream has<br \/>\nshattered.<\/p>\n<p>Sayeed was among six who were killed in police firing across the country<br \/>\nduring movement centering quota system in the government job on July 16.<\/p>\n<p>Their deaths fueled the movement unleashing deadly clash with the law<br \/>\nenforcers like police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Rapid Action<br \/>\nBattalion (RAB) turning it into mass uprising that toppled Sheikh Hasina-led<br \/>\ngovernment which became a tyrant for last 15 years destroying all democratic<br \/>\nsystems such as right to franchise, freedom of expression etc.<\/p>\n<p>At least 757 persons were so far reportedly killed in shootings and deadly<br \/>\nclashes centering the anti-discrimination student movement across the<br \/>\ncountry.<\/p>\n<p>Classmates Arman Haque and Liakat Ali said gentle and delicate Sayeed was<br \/>\nvery adorable to teachers and classmates. They said, &#8220;Sayeed had a good<br \/>\nrelation with all of every department. He was not connected to any politics<br \/>\ndirectly. He use to study for jobs from the first year&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>BRUR English depart head and Associate Professor Asif Al Matin said, &#8220;All are<br \/>\nstudents, but there are some graceful students whom we can&#8217;t forget. Sayeed<br \/>\nwas among them&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>While offering prayer at Sayeed&#8217;s grave on August 14, BNP Secretary General<br \/>\nMirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir mentioned that Sayeed placed the soil of Pirganj<br \/>\nin the history as he launched a new Bangladesh history by shedding blood.<\/p>\n<p>Alamgir called it as the history of sacrifice of youths, new history of<br \/>\nliberation war and a history of emancipating Bangladeshi people.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, on August 10, Chief Adviser to the Interim Government Nobel Laureate<br \/>\nProfessor Dr Muhammad Yunus went to Pirganj to pay respect to the memory of<br \/>\nAbu Sayeed.
