\nsaid they dream of building a corruption-free Bangladesh.<\/p>\n

“Corruption, extortion and grabbing are not our culture. The people are not
\nsafe from a party that cannot guarantee against such a culture,” he told a
\ndiscussion and doa mahfil for July uprising martyrs and injured at Shilpakala
\nAcademy here.<\/p>\n

Sylhet Metropolitan Jamaat Ameer Fakhrul Islam chaired the programme.<\/p>\n

Shafiqur Rahman said after the July uprising, they tried their best to stand
\nby the martyrs and injured.<\/p>\n

“We are always by their side, we will be. We have tried to fulfill our moral responsibility,” he said.<\/p>\n

Assuring that if Jamaat comes to power, they we will first take steps to
\nrespect and rehabilitate the families of the martyrs and injured, he said, 70
\npercent of the families of the martyrs in this movement are working people.<\/p>\n

“If we come to power, these families will be given priority first,” he said.<\/p>\n

He urged the government to properly ensure treatment of the injured and
\nensure trial of the killers.<\/p>\n

Jamaat Ameer called for ensuring the rights of tea workers. “Don’t they have
\nthe right to live with dignity? When they talk about rights, they are pushed
\ntowards the garden owners. No government had any thought of taking this
\nsector forward. If we come to power, the human rights of everyone from tea
\nworkers to low-income people in slums will be ensured,” he said.<\/p>\n

He said, “Our neighboring countries will get priority in case of foreign
\nrelations. But if they want to take away our rights, the 180 million people
\nof the country will resist. We will not let anyone interfere in our country’s
\ninternal affairs.”<\/p>\n

About polls, Shafiqur Rahman said they do not want elections without minimum
\n(basic) reforms.<\/p>\n

Before the elections, the top criminals who shot and killed students and
\npeople in the July-August mass uprising must be tried, he said.<\/p>\n

Stating that no one is the mastermind of the July movement, he said, “If one
\nor two people are called masterminds, the rest will be underestimated. All
\nthose who fought are the masterminds of this movement.”<\/p>\n

Noting that the government had failed to provide medical care to those
\ninjured in the July uprising, the Jamaat Ameer said, “The government has not
\nstood by the family members of the martyrs properly.”<\/p>\n

Metropolitan Jamaat Secretary Shahjahan Ali and Nayeb-e-Ameer Nurul Islam
\nBabul moderated the programme while party’s Assistant Secretary General
\nAdvocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, Jamaat’s Sylhet District Ameer Maulana
