The announcement was made during a press conference held on Monday (August 4) at 2:30 PM beside the university’s central library. Sardar Zahurul Islam, General Secretary of RU Chhatra Dal, presented the written statement on behalf of the organization. “Last year’s July movement was a historic struggle for democracy and freedom of expression in the educational institutions of this country. It proved that students never surrender to injustice and authoritarianism,” said Zahurul. “Inspired by that spirit, we are now calling for legal action against ongoing fascist activities at Rajshahi University.” He accused a faction of pro-Awami League teachers of deliberately standing against student rights during the July protests, thereby enabling attacks by pro-government student activists and law enforcement. “These teachers legitimized violence by staging symbolic human chains on Paris Road during the uprising. Their actions were disgraceful and reprehensible,” he stated. Zahurul further claimed that this group of teachers has continued to obstruct freedom of expression and democratic practices on campus through intimidation, fear, and repression, severely damaging the academic environment. He also criticized the former university administration, saying, “The then Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, and Proctor directly ordered and witnessed the firing on general students. Shockingly, these individuals are still holding their positions and drawing regular salaries.” On the current administration, Zahurul stated that it mirrors the behavior of the previous one. “Media reports suggest that the current authorities are showing favoritism in faculty recruitment, favoring candidates endorsed by specific groups through illegal and questionable means. This contradicts the spirit of the July-August uprising and undermines academic integrity.” He condemned recent remarks made by senior university officials targeting RU Chhatra Dal President Sultan Ahmed Rahi. “Instead of addressing specific allegations, the administration has resorted to personal attacks. These hateful and baseless remarks are a disgrace and an attempt to cover up wrongdoing,” he added. Calling for united resistance, Zahurul said, “We urge the university administration, teachers, students, and all democracy-loving citizens to come together against these fascist activities. Rajshahi University is not just a center of learning—it is a stronghold of free thought and human values. To protect that, we must firmly resist authoritarianism in all forms.” The press conference was attended by Organizing Secretary Mahmudul Hasan Mithu, Office Secretary Nafiwl Jibon, and around 20 other student activists.

RU Chhatra Dal to Name ‘Fascist Collaborator’ Teachers on August 7

RU Correspondent:
Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) of the University of Rajshahi unit of the has announced a protest program scheduled for Thursday, August 7, where they plan to publicly display photos and names of teachers allegedly involved in opposing the student-led “July Uprising.” The group labels these individuals as “collaborators of fascism” and demanding legal action against them.
