Md. Nayeemur Rahman (Sylhet): <\/strong>Bangadesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman today said the elections in February next year must go ahead as planned sounding a note of warning that conspiracy over the polls would not succeed due to people resistance against any such plot.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnyone who thinks they can foil the next election will be resisted by the people,\u201d the Jamaat chief told a divisional rally of eight Islamic parties at Sylhet Government Alia Madrasa ground this afternoon.<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cIf someone imagines they can hijack the polls through an administrative coup out of fear of losing public support, they should know – that era is over.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rahman said Bangladesh now witnessed a rising sun to deliver the teachings of the holy Quran.<\/p>\n

Chiefs and senior leaders of like-minded Islamic parties also addressed the event.<\/p>\n

The Jamaat Ameer said Bangladesh must be freed from \u201clooters\u201d and returned to patriotic citizens in line with the aspirations of the youths who led the last year\u2019s July Uprising.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe youth have shed blood with a dream. The eight-party alliance fully stands with that dream. Those who oppose the dream will not be forgiven by the people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Rahman said the country must move toward a system that would serve workers, boatmen, labourers and students adding since Bangladesh\u2019s independence 54 years ago, the nation had struggled to stand with dignity.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter foreign aggressors left, internal predators plundered the resources of the people\u2019 . . . smuggled abroad, while the shadow of fascism continued to loom over the country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Rahman said one particular group committed wrongdoings and fled the country, while another such group was now following their footprints and added \u201cone group earned public hatred for extortion; another is engaged in even more ruthless extortion\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne group tortured, disappeared, killed and exiled people, while the other is following the same path,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The Jamaat chief called on other Islamic political groups still outside the alliance to join the grouping coming out of \u201call illusions\u201d.<\/p>\n

Islami Andolan Bangladesh Ameer Mufti Rezaul Karim, better known as Charmonai Pir, said the massive turnout in divisional gatherings proved public support for their five-point demands of the eight-party grouping.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver a thousand mothers lost their sons on August 5, (2024) many were maimed or lost eyesight . . . they are not safe from those who held the nation hostage,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The Charmonai Pir said the public had expected reforms and justice after the events of August 5, along with preparations for a fair election \u201cbut today we are witnessing obstacles to reforms, obstacles to justice\u201d.<\/p>\n

He, however, said anyone conspiring against the nation would be rejected by the people.<\/p>\n

Khelafat Majlis Ameer Maulana Mamunul Haque said Islamic movement leaders sacrificed their lives and faced execution but never bowed to injustice.<\/p>\n

He alleged that despite the fall of \u201cfascist forces\u201d during the July uprising, \u201cforeign hegemonic interests and their local agents\u201d were attempting to impose a new kind of fascism but \u201cno new fascism will be allowed to take root in Bangladesh\u201d.<\/p>\n

The upcoming election is not only about party symbols but a referendum on the implementation of the July Charter,\u201d he said asking the eight-party grouping activists to seek public support for a \u2018Yes\u2019 vote for the plebiscite alongside voting for the alliance candidates.<\/p>\n

Khelafat Majlis central Ameer Maulana Abdul Basit Azad chaired the rally moderated by Jamaat\u2019s Sylhet City Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr. Nurul Islam Babul.<\/p>\n

Those who addressed the event are: Sylhet Metropolitan Jamaat Ameer Fakhrul Islam, Islami Oikya Jote Ameer Maulana Habibullah Miaji, Bangladesh Khelafat Andolon chief Maulana Sarwar Kamal Azizi, JAGPA Vice President Rashed Pradhan and Bangladesh Development Party President Advocate Anwarul Islam Chan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
