Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan has said that the government will carry out reform initiatives by engaging all stakeholders in order to strengthen the democratic state system. He also stated that the government is committed to ensuring freedom of the media.<\/p>\n

The minister made these remarks while addressing a workshop as the chief guest on Thursday (June 18) at Hotel InterContinental in Dhaka. The workshop was organized to formulate a framework for the proposed National Media Commission.<\/p>\n

Swapan said that reforms would be advanced through the participation of all relevant stakeholders in building a democratic state. In this process, the government would play the role of a coordinator.
\n\u201cThis is the first time that all stakeholders related to the media sector have been brought together. It will have far-reaching implications. This is a significant opportunity for us. We can now develop a clear roadmap to achieve our goals,\u201d he said.
\nThe Information Minister further noted that the government would work to ensure media freedom and would give due importance to the opinions of stakeholders in reforming the media sector.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the workshop, State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yaser Khan Chowdhury said that no one is above mistakes. Therefore, responsible and constructive journalism is essential in highlighting the government’s shortcomings so that corrective measures can be taken.<\/p>\n

He added that criticism should be based on facts and serve the public interest. Such an approach would help strengthen accountability and build greater trust between the government and the media.<\/p>\n
