ET Desk:<\/strong> Bangladesh has initiated a move to strengthen cooperation with Canada in livestock development, safe animal-based food production, food security, and international trade capacity building.<\/p>\n

\u200b A high-level delegation from the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, led by Secretary Md. Delwar Hossain, held a bilateral meeting with Dr. Prarthi Muthukumarasamy, Director General of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), and other senior officials at the agency’s headquarters in Ottawa on Tuesday afternoon (local time).<\/p>\n

\u200b The Bangladesh delegation also included Md. Shahzaman Khan, Director General of the Department of Livestock Services (DLS), and Md. Shariful Haque, Deputy Director of the department.<\/p>\n

\u200bDuring the meeting, both sides held detailed discussions on livestock development, food security, animal health, veterinary services, animal feed quality control, disease surveillance, research, institutional capacity building, and the implementation of Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) measures.<\/p>\n

\u200b They also expressed mutual interest in working together to expand trade in animal products, enhance technical cooperation, exchange information and expertise, develop skilled human resources, and upgrade modern laboratory and food inspection systems.<\/p>\n

\u200b Speaking at the meeting, Livestock Secretary Md. Delwar Hossain said the Bangladesh government is attaching the highest priority to producing international-standard safe animal-based foods and boosting export capabilities.<\/p>\n

\u200b Technical assistance from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency will play a vital role in further strengthening Bangladesh’s capacity in this sector, he added.<\/p>\n

\u200b Welcome the Bangladeshi delegation, CFIA Director General Dr. Prarthi Muthukumarasamy expressed interest in bolstering mutual cooperation to improve food safety, animal health, and regulatory frameworks. He hoped that the exchange of knowledge, technology, and experience between the relevant institutions of the two countries would increase in the future.<\/p>\n
