{"id":13911,"date":"2026-09-12T11:48:08","date_gmt":"2026-09-12T05:48:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyenglishtimes.com\/?p=13911"},"modified":"2026-09-12T11:48:08","modified_gmt":"2026-09-12T05:48:08","slug":"brju-has-demanded-legal-action-against-those-responsible-for-the-death-of-journalist-pulak-chatterjee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyenglishtimes.com\/?p=13911","title":{"rendered":"BRJU has demanded legal action against those responsible for the death of journalist Pulak Chatterjee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ET Desk:\u00a0<\/strong> Bangladesh Rural Journalists Union (BRJU) has demanded an impartial investigation into the death of senior journalist Pulak Chatterjee to determine whether anyone was responsible for or instigated the incident, and to bring those found responsible to justice.<\/p>\n<p>In a joint statement issued on Saturday (September 12), BRJU Chairman Mohammad Mizanur Rahman and Secretary General Sheikh Mohammad Tajul Islam made the demand.<br \/>\nThe leaders said that important information regarding Pulak Chatterjee\u2019s employment and unpaid dues has reportedly emerged from the five notes he left behind. In particular, his request to recover his outstanding dues from Dainik Samakal and hand the money over to his family warrants a thorough investigation, they said.<\/p>\n<p>The BRJU leaders said that if Pulak Chatterjee had not received his outstanding payments since 2023, it is necessary to investigate to what extent the financial crisis, along with his family and medical expenses, may have affected his mental and personal circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo journalist should be forced into such a desperate situation because of financial or professional hardship. If an investigation establishes any responsibility on the part of any individual or institution, those responsible must be brought under the law,\u201d the statement said.<br \/>\nThey further said that Pulak Chatterjee had a long and distinguished career in journalism. He served as the bureau chief of Dainik Jugantor and Dainik Samakal. He also served as the former general secretary of the Barishal Press Club and was a current member of its executive committee, playing an important role in the local journalism community.<\/p>\n<p>The BRJU leaders said the death of such an experienced journalist is a matter of deep concern for the entire journalism community.<\/p>\n<p>They stressed the need for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death, including the place and time of the incident, the contents of the notes, his prolonged illness, termination of employment, and issues related to his unpaid dues.<\/p>\n<p>They also called for an investigation into why Pulak Chatterjee had gone to the Barishal bureau office of Dainik Samakal and how the incident leading to his death occurred there.<br \/>\nUnpaid Dues Mentioned in Five Notes<br \/>\nAccording to information provided by police, Pulak Chatterjee left five separate notes. One note addressed to his wife and daughter reportedly contained family-related matters and instructions concerning their welfare in his absence.<\/p>\n<p>Separate messages were also reportedly addressed to his younger brother Dipak Chatterjee, Barishal Press Club General Secretary S.M. Zakir Hossain, and Suman Chowdhury, who was in charge of the Barishal bureau of Dainik Samakal.<br \/>\nIn the note addressed to colleague Suman Chowdhury, Pulak Chatterjee reportedly requested that his outstanding payments from Dainik Samakal be recovered and handed over to his family.<\/p>\n<p>The BRJU has called for this issue to be given particular importance during the investigation.<br \/>\nThe BRJU leaders said Pulak Chatterjee\u2019s death should not be viewed merely as a personal incident.
