Staff Correspondent: <\/strong>Humayun Kabir, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, attended as the chief guest at the international conference titled “Protracted Rohingya Crisis: The Search for a Comprehensive Approach,” held on Sunday, September 13, at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.<\/p>\n

At the conference, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs highlighted the ‘National Strategy Formulation Committee on Rohingya Affairs,’ established under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to address the Rohingya crisis. He stated that through this initiative, Bangladesh is moving towards formulating a unified national strategy by bringing together the country’s diplomatic, humanitarian, and security-related institutions under a coordinated framework.<\/p>\n

He reiterated that the safe, voluntary, dignified, and sustainable repatriation of the Rohingyas remains Bangladesh’s commitment and primary objective. At the same time, he emphasized the need for more effective political engagement and equitable responsibility-sharing by the international community to resolve the crisis.<\/p>\n

Academics, diplomats, government officials, policymakers, representatives of international organizations, experts from various fields, and Rohingya representatives participated in this day-long international conference. The discussions featured a significant exchange of views regarding the long-term humanitarian and security impacts of the Rohingya crisis, international responsibility-sharing, prospects for repatriation, and potential pathways to resolving the crisis at both regional and global levels.<\/p>\n

Distinguished figures present at the conference included Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam, Rector of the Foreign Service Academy Mohammad Abdul Muhit, UNHCR Representative in Bangladesh Mr. Ivo Freijsen, and the conference convener\u2014Professor Dr. ASM Ali Ashraf, Chairman of the Department of International Relations at the University of Dhaka and Director of the Centre for Genocide Studies.<\/p>\n
