Sylhet Correspondent:\u00a0 A campaign event for the 2027\u201328 biennial election of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) was held in the hall room of Garden Tower in Sylhet city. The event, which took place on Thursday (October 29), was attended by candidates, engineers, and other relevant stakeholders. The biennial election for the IEB is scheduled to be held on Thursday, November 12. Voting will take place between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM.<\/p>\n
Candidates are contesting for various positions within the IEB\u2014including those at its headquarters and across the Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Textile Engineering divisions. According to the published list of candidates, Engineer Khan Manzur Morshed is running for the position of President, while Engineer Mia Muhammad Qayyum is contesting for the post of Honorary General Secretary. Engineer Shahrin Islam Tuhin, Convener of the Association of Engineers, Bangladesh (AEB), was present as the chief guest at the election campaign event.<\/p>\n
Present as special guests were Engineer Shoeb Bashari Hablu, Member Secretary of the Association of Engineers, Bangladesh (AEB); Engineer Professor Dr. Mohammad Iqbal, Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET); and Engineer Pronjit Kumar Deb, Superintending Engineer at BADC (Sylhet), member of the Association of Engineers, Bangladesh (AEB), and Joint Member Secretary of the Central Election Management Committee.<\/p>\n
Also present at the event\u2014and among the speakers\u2014were Engineer Dr. Salma Akter, a professor at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology; Engineer Manjur Ahmad Chowdhury, a member of the Association of Engineers, Bangladesh (AEB), Sylhet; Engineer Rabeya Begum, a member of the Central Election Management Committee; and Engineer Muhammad Sarwar Maola, Deputy Chief Engineer at BADC, Dhaka\u2014who serves as a Joint Member-Secretary of the Central Election Management Committee and is a candidate for the IEB Central Council.<\/p>\n
The event was presided over by Engineer Md. Zainal Islam Chowdhury, former Chief Engineer of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology and a member of the Association of Engineers, Bangladesh (AEB), Sylhet chapter. Election-related activities are currently underway, with candidates campaigning and seeking support from voters for the upcoming IEB election.
