The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a<\/p>\n
$100 million loan to improve computer science, software engineering and
\ninformation technology (IT) programs in three universities in Bangladesh.<\/p>\n
“Uplifting software engineering program in higher education is the needs of
\ntime to accelerate fourth industrial revolution technology adoption and
\nrealize the vision of Digital Bangladesh,” said ADB Social Sector Economist
\nRyotaro Hayashi.<\/p>\n
“This project will help develop more competent and technology-savvy graduates
\nand entrepreneurs who can help propel the country’s IT industry.” added
\nHayashi.<\/p>\n
The project will upgrade the computer science and engineering, software
\nengineering, and information technology degree programs of the leading public
\nuniversities in Bangladesh which are Bangladesh University of Engineering and
\nTechnology, and the University of Dhaka, as well as Jashore University of
\nScience and Technology, said a press release.<\/p>\n
These programs will adopt blended learning techniques and integrate the
\nlatest technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and internet
\nof things.<\/p>\n
These programs will seek international accreditation to ensure that students
\nget updated curricula that adhere to international standards.<\/p>\n
ADB will support the establishment of modern classrooms and laboratories,
\ncollaboration and start-up spaces, and auxiliary facilities in the three
\nuniversities.<\/p>\n
These facilities will incorporate climate- and disaster-resilient designs,
\nenergy- and water-saving features, and will include women-friendly amenities
\nand services. The universities will develop capacities of teachers to be
\nproficient in new instructional approaches and emerging digital technologies.<\/p>\n
The students and teachers from the three and other universities will also
\nwork with industry partners to come up with innovative solutions through
\njoint research and development.<\/p>\n
Mandatory internship opportunities, career counseling, and industry placement
\nwill be provided to undergraduate students, particularly for women.<\/p>\n
The ADB is committed to achieving a prosperous, inclusive, resilient, and
\nsustainable Asia and the Pacific, while sustaining its efforts to eradicate
\nextreme poverty. Established in 1966, it is owned by 68 members-49 from the
