\nHe also sought the European Union’s (EU) continued trade priority for Bangladesh’s smooth LDC transition.<\/span>
\nDescribing the EU as a trusted trade, development and humanitarian partner for Bangladesh, he said, “We seek EU’s continued trade priority in our smooth LDC transition.”<\/span>
\nThe Prime Minister urged the EU countries to invest more in Bangladesh, especially in special economic zones and in the construction of hi-tech parks across the country.<\/span>
\nNoting that Bangladesh offers one of the most attractive investment environments in South Asia, he said, ‘Therefore, I invite EU investors to explore the benefits of our Special Economic Zone and Hi-Tech Park.’<\/span>
\nHe also said his country has opportunities to do more in decent work and circular economy.<\/span>
\nThe Prime Minister stressed the need for better preparedness and restoration of mutual respect to face future crises in the context of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and the Israeli offensive in Gaza.<\/span>
\n“We need to be better prepared for future crises,” he said.\u00a0We must restore faith in mutual respect and understanding between different countries.’<\/span>
\nThe Prime Minister wished the Global Gateway Forum 2023 all success and hoped that it would serve as a great link for lasting peace and sustainable development.<\/span>
\nHe also said that Bangladesh is willing to join the EU in developing green hydrogen.<\/span>
\n“We can benefit from the European Union’s expertise in sustainable use of marine resources,” he said.\u00a0We need to invest in our cold chain networks to preserve our agricultural production.’<\/span>
\nThe Prime Minister said that Bangladesh’s pharmaceuticals and medical equipment industry can support the EU’s efforts in diversifying production.<\/span>
\nHe further said, ‘We are looking for partners in cutting-edge technology for our future institutes.’\u00a0<\/span>
\nSheikh Hasina said Bangladesh’s dynamic youth population is ready to join EU’s skills and talent partnership programme.<\/span>
\n“We believe the Global Gateway will help realize our vision for a ‘Smart Bangladesh’ by 2041,” he said.<\/span>
\nThe Prime Minister said they have fruitful cooperation in security, climate change and human mobility.<\/span>
\n“Our shared values \u200b\u200band commitment are at the heart of our engagement with the EU,” he said.<\/span>
\nThe Prime Minister said that they have officially started negotiations on a bilateral partnership and cooperation agreement.<\/span>
\n“We have signed a landmark agreement with the EIB for a 350-million-euro loan to invest in renewable energy,” he said.<\/span>
\nOn this 50th anniversary of Bangladesh-EU relations, he said, ‘I reiterate our commitment to further strengthen our strategic engagement.’<\/span>
\nThe Prime Minister said that Bangladesh is now the 35th largest economy in the world as our economy of 70 billion dollars has grown to 465 billion in less than 15 years.<\/span>
\n‘We have lifted millions of our people out of poverty.\u00a0Extreme poverty fell from 25.1% in 2006 to 5.6%.\u00a0Bangladesh is going to be promoted from UN LDC status in 2026,’ he said.<\/span>
\nHe said his government will ensure food security, universal primary education, community based healthcare, safe water and sanitation, free housing, rural connectivity, disaster resilience, climate adaptation, 100% electricity coverage, internet connectivity across the country, industrial growth, infrastructural development and The most important is moving systematically to ensure women’s empowerment.<\/span>

\nMentioning that Bangladesh’s road, rail and port infrastructure is being built as part of the regional economic corridor, he said, “We have built the Padma Multipurpose Bridge with Bangladesh’s own resources.”
\nHe said, ‘We have offered access to the Bay of Bengal to the land-locked areas of Nepal, Bhutan and North-East India.\u00a0Our airports can act as gateways between East and West.’
\nHe said, the connection between Bangladesh and EU is a common bonding element in our Indo-Pacific vision.
