Philippa King, deputy CEO of the Australian Trade<\/p>\n
and Investment Commission (AusTrade), has laid emphasis on strengthening the
\neconomic partnership between Bangladesh and Australia alongside focusing on
\nproduct diversification.<\/p>\n
The AusTrade deputy CEO made the emphasis during a meeting with Senior
\nCommerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh in Australia.<\/p>\n
Tapan visited Australia on a week-long visit from February 11 to boost
\nbilateral trade, commerce and investment, said a handout.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, the Senior Commerce Secretary highlighted on other
\npotential sectors of Bangladesh like ICT, light engineering, apart from RMG.<\/p>\n
The AusTrade deputy CEO put emphasis on forging partnership by the various
\nBangladeshi universities with the different universities of Australia as an
\nalternate model for higher education.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, support was sought from Australia in the technical
\neducation Programme.<\/p>\n
The meeting also discussed about holding seminar jointly on boosting
\nBangladesh-Australia bilateral trade.<\/p>\n
During his visit, the Senior Commerce Secretary also held meeting with Gary
\nKawan, First Assistant Secretary, North and South Asia, Department of Foreign
\nAffairs and Trade of Australia, trade affairs chief of Australian Chamber of
\nCommerce and Industry Chris Burns and the leaders of local Bangladesh-
\nAustralia Chamber.<\/p>\n
During the meeting with Kawan, Tapan sought support from Australia to
\ncontinue the LDC status facilities by the WTO in favour of Bangladesh during
\nthe post LDC graduation period.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Senior Commerce Secretary also addressed a seminar organized
\nby the Bangladesh-Australia Business Council.<\/p>\n
Currently, the Bangladesh-Australia bilateral trade crossed over 4 billion
