Faruque Hassan, president of the Bangladesh<\/p>\n
Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), sought the support
\nof the Embassy to promote bilateral trade and investment, especially
\nattracting investments from Italy in the promising industrial sectors of
\nBangladesh.<\/p>\n
Faruque made the call when he paid a courtesy call on Monirul Islam,
\nambassador of Bangladesh to Italy, at the Embassy in Rome.<\/p>\n
Embassy officials including Economic Counsellor Md. Al Amin and First
\nSecretary (Labour) Ashif Anam Siddique were also present in the meeting, said
\na press release.<\/p>\n
The discussions centered on the significant trade and investment
\nopportunities between Bangladesh and Italy, with a particular focus on
\nincreasing Bangladeshi garment exports to Italy, especially high-value
\nfashion products.<\/p>\n
Faruque provided an overview of Bangladesh apparel industry’s current state,
\nfuture potential and vision.<\/p>\n
He highlighted the industry’s growing shift from basic to high-end products,
\nparticularly the fashion items based on man-made fibers and technical
\ntextiles.<\/p>\n
Since the demand for high-end garments is significant in the Italian market,
\nthere is a considerable opportunity for Bangladesh to export such goods to
\nItaly.<\/p>\n
The BGMEA president emphasized the potential investment sectors for Italian
\ninvestors, including non-cotton textiles, food and agro-processing, IT, light
\nengineering, leather and shipbuilding.<\/p>\n
He also requested the embassy’s assistance in attracting Italian apparel
\nbuyers who do not source from Bangladesh.<\/p>\n
Highlighting the direct flight between Dhaka and Rome, Faruque emphasized its
\nsignificance in enhancing business communication.<\/p>\n
He urged the envoy to streamline consular services and simplify the visa
\nobtaining process for businessmen, with the aim of fostering increased
\nbusiness interactions.<\/p>\n
Faruque also urged Ambassador Monirul to facilitate collaboration between
\nBGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT) and fashion institutes in
