{"id":7423,"date":"2024-04-27T05:03:45","date_gmt":"2024-04-27T01:33:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyenglishtimes.com\/?p=7423"},"modified":"2024-04-27T05:03:45","modified_gmt":"2024-04-27T01:33:45","slug":"dhaka-bangkok-sign-five-bilateral-documents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyenglishtimes.com\/?p=7423","title":{"rendered":"Dhaka, Bangkok sign five bilateral documents"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Staff correspondent :<\/p>\n<p>Bangladesh and Thailand today struck five<br \/>\nbilateral documents for visa exemption, cooperation on energy, tourism and<br \/>\ncustom matters and negotiation of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the<br \/>\ntwo countries.<\/p>\n<p>The documents &#8212; an agreement, three Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and<br \/>\na Letter of Intent (LOI)&#8211; were inked in presence of Bangladesh Prime Minister<br \/>\nSheikh Hasina and Thailand Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin in Bangkok<br \/>\nfollowing a bilateral meeting between the two leaders at Government<br \/>\nHouse (Thai Prime Minister&#8217;s Office) here.<\/p>\n<p>The documents are agreement on Visa Exemption for Holders of Official<br \/>\nPassports, MoUs on Energy Cooperation, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance in Customs Matters and Cooperation in the field of tourism and LOI to commence<br \/>\nnegotiations on a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) by the year 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Two MoUs on energy cooperation and tourism cooperation were signed by Foreign<br \/>\nMinister Dr Hasan Mahmud from the Bangladesh side while agreement on Visa<br \/>\nExemption by Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, LOI by State Minister for<br \/>\nCommerce Ahasanul Islam Titu and another MoU on Mutual Assistance in Customs Matters signed by National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Abu Hena Md. Rahmatul Muneem.<\/p>\n<p>Talking about signing the bilateral documents at a joint press conference, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the two sides agreed to commence negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) by the year 2024 and the two countries have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) on the issue.<\/p>\n<p>She said the two countries signed the Agreement on Visa Exemption for Holders<br \/>\nof Official Passports to facilitate smooth contact between Thai and<br \/>\nBangladeshi officials.<\/p>\n<p>MoU on energy cooperation was inked to explore the potential of energy<br \/>\ncooperation, the Premier said, adding: &#8220;MoUs on Cooperation and Mutual<br \/>\nAssistance in Customs Matters was signed to benefit from Thai knowledge,<br \/>\nexperiences and the final MoU in the field of tourism was inked to benefit<br \/>\nfrom the best tourism practices.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Thai Prime Minister, at the joint press conference, said Thailand and<br \/>\nBangladesh are committed to working together towards a Free Trade Agreement<br \/>\n(FTA) and expressed optimism that the Letter of Intent would help to expedite<br \/>\nthe negotiation process.<\/p>\n<p>He said the Agreement on Visa Exemption for Holders of Official Passports<br \/>\nwill facilitate more travel between Thai and Bangladeshi officials while the<br \/>\nMoU on Energy Cooperation will help materialize the two countries&#8217; true<br \/>\npotential from energy cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>Besides, the MoU on Cooperation and Mutual Assistance in Customs Matters will<br \/>\nlead to effective border control and anti-smuggling operations while the MoU<br \/>\non Cooperation in the Field of Tourism will allow the two countries to<br \/>\nexchange knowledge, experiences and best practices in the areas, he added.<\/p>\n<p>On her arrival at the Government House, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh<br \/>\nHasina was accorded a warm welcome at the front lawn of Thai Kooh Fah<br \/>\nBuilding there as red carpet was rolled out.<\/p>\n<p>She inspected the Guard of Honor given by a smartly turned-out contingent of<br \/>\nthe Thai armed forces.<\/p>\n<p>Srettha Thavisin introduced his cabinet members to Sheikh Hasina before she<br \/>\nsigned the guest book of the Government House.<\/p>\n<p>The premier also joined an official luncheon there before leaving the House.<\/p>\n<p>Before joining the luncheon, Sheikh Hasina visited a Thai handicrafts<br \/>\nexhibition at the Government House.
