Flood situation in char and river basin areas
\nunder four upazilas of the district remained unchanged as the water level of
\nthe Brahmaputra river was steady during the last 24 hours till this morning
\nat 9 am.<\/p>\n
The official of Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) here said the
\nBrahmaputra was flowing 86cm over the danger level at Fulchhari Ghat point of
\nthe district.<\/p>\n
As a result, submerging chars located in the eastern side and river basins in
\nthe western side of 29 unions under Sundarganj, Sadar, Fulchhari and Saghata
\nupazilas have been flooded making 67,729 families marooned.<\/p>\n
Of them, some 5,200 families have been marooned in Sundarganj upazila, 39,889
\nin Sadar upazila, 7,490 in Fulchhari upazila and 15,150 in Saghata upazila of
\nthe district.<\/p>\n
In order to mitigate the sufferings of the flood victims, the district and
\nupazila administrations stood beside the flood-affected families with relief
\naid, office sources said.<\/p>\n
A total of 3,050 packages of dry food, 165 tonnes of rice and Taka 10 lakh
\nare being distributed to the flood victims at the initiative of the
\nadministration through involving the local government bodies, the sources
\nadded.<\/p>\n
Besides, 265 tonnes of rice are in stock of the administration to face
\nnatural calamity, said an official of the district administration.<\/p>\n
To face the ongoing flood, as many as 181 flood shelter centers have been
\nprepared in the upazilas, he also said.<\/p>\n
Boats and speed boats have been kept ready to bring the flood victims to
\nsafer places, he said adding: “Adequate medical teams, livestock teams,
\nagriculture teams and volunteer teams had been formed to conduct rescue
\noperations.”<\/p>\n
United Nations’ World Food programme (WFP) stood beside the flood victims
\nunder these four upazilas during the emergency period and distributed cash of
\nTaka 10 crore to the 20,000 flood-affected people of the upazilas through
\ntheir respective bKash account.<\/p>\n
Each of the flood victims got Taka 5,000 from the WFP.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, GanaUnnayan Kendra (GUK), a local voluntary non-government
\norganisation, also distributed dignity kit materials (16 kinds) to the flood-
\naffected families of Kunderpara char and its surrounding areas under Sadar
\nupazila in the district on Sunday in cooperation with UNFPA, said the
\nofficial of the administration.<\/p>\n
DC Kazi Nahid Rasul said the district administration is on high alert about
\nthe flood and all sorts of preparations have been taken to deal with the
