ET Desk: Dhaka Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ms Farida Khanam has stood by Sujan, who was seriously injured and permanently disabled in the July Uprising. Considering his family and financial distress, immediate financial assistance has been provided. The Deputy Commissioner has also assured to arrange a permanent employment in the future.
Sujan narrated his helpless situation at the Dhaka District Commissioner’s office on Monday. Sujan is now unable to walk normally after being injured in the July movement. Being the only earner in the family, his jobless situation has also put the family in a lot of trouble. Meanwhile, his divorced sister is taking care of his father, who has suffered a stroke. On the other hand, since his wife is pregnant, the pressure of medical treatment and household expenses has increased, he said.
In such a situation, when Sujan requested assistance from the District Commissioner, after verifying her statement and the necessary documents, the District Commissioner, Ms. Farida Khanam, provided immediate financial assistance. Deputy Commissioner, Ms. Farida Khanam, said, “The state and society have a responsibility towards those who sacrificed their lives or were injured in the July Movement. From a humanitarian perspective, the administration is always trying to stand by them. Sujan’s current situation is very difficult.
“In addition to immediate assistance, we will also take initiatives to create a permanent employment opportunity for him. The Prime Minister is always by the side of the helpless and distressed people and in that vein, the district administration is also working to fulfill its humanitarian responsibilities.”
Sujan, who was emotional after receiving the financial assistance, said, “After being injured in the July Movement, my life seemed to have come to a complete standstill. My father is bedridden due to a stroke, my sister’s family is broken, and my wife is also pregnant. Looking at my family, I feel very helpless. I have traveled to many places, but today the District Administrator Madam listened to me attentively. She not only provided financial assistance, but also assured me of arranging work in the future. This assistance has become a new light of hope for my family.”
Officials from various levels of the District Commissioner’s office were present at the time.
