Patient dies at Green Life Hospital due to wrong treatment

Desk Report: There have been allegations of patient death due to wrong treatment at Green Life Hospital in the capital. Relatives claim, without talking to them Zakir Hossain (51) had a ring placed in his heart. Later, when his condition deteriorated, the patient died on March 15 due to the negligence of the hospital authorities and doctors. Regarding the issue, tge relatives of tge victim held a press conference on Tuesday (June 6) at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU). Meanwhile, they raised the complaint of patient death. Zakir Hossain’s wife Nurun Nahar said in a written statement at the press conference that Zakir was admitted to Green Life Hospital on March 12 with chest pain. His ECG was done soon after admission. In the morning, the ECG report revealed that her husband had a heart attack. However, associate professor Dr. Rashedul Hasan Kanak could not diagnose it. He discharged the patient with three gastric medicines. He did not do the tests that were required at that moment, nor did he ask to do them. Even a cardiologist did not suggest to see. Nurun Nahar also complained that on the same evening, BRB Hospital gastrology doctor Md. Mahbubul Alam Prince advised him to go to a cardiologist knowing the patient’s diabetes and chest pain. Later Shekhar Kumar Mandal (Clinical(Interventional Cardiologist) performs ECG and Echo of the patient. According to the results of these tests, the patient will not live for more than an hour and a half, he said. At the same time, as soon as possible, the patient is asked to perform an angiogram and wear a heart ring. Regarding admission to Green Life again, Nurun Nahar said that even though we wanted to go to another hospital, they brought us to Green Life Hospital against our will by showing some kind of fear. Even though we were told about the institute, he forced us to come to Green Life Hospital by emotional blackmail. Even before the patient is admitted, the ring is put on the patient without any consultation or opinion with us. Alleging inefficiency in the management of Green Life Hospital, Nurun Nahar said that after putting the ring on the patient, there was extreme negligence in post-operative management in the hospital and inefficiency in medical management. Despite being known to be diabetic, the hospital authorities kept him overnight without giving him insulin. At night, the patient’s ketone body becomes positive as the patient’s sugar is not controlled. Hospital authorities could not provide timely dialysis services to patients due to lack of necessary medical equipment. As a result, Zakir Hossain died on March 15 due to multiple organ failure. In this situation, victims’s family demanded the doctors on duty and the responsible persons examplary punishment also to Professor Dr. Golam Azam, Dr. Shekhar Kumar Mandal, Dr. Rashedul Hasan Kanak. They demanded BMDC registration cancellation and punitive measures . For this, a letter has been sent to the concerned authorities including Health Department, BMDC. The family has lodged a GD at the Kalabagan police station demanding the punishment of those responsible. The family members said that after the death of the patient, they made a verbal complaint to the hospital authorities. They handed over the body on March 16 without a hospital bill of more than six and a half lakh taka after getting the truth of the verbal complaint. At the same time informed about taking action against those responsible. The hospital authorities expelled Shekhar and Kanak.
