Madrasah Background to Germany’s Scholarship: Anecdotal Journey of IU Student

IU Correspondent: Jahid Hasan, a student of the Al-Hadith and Islamic Studies department at Islamic University (IU), has meritoriously secured admission to a master’s programme at the Technical University of Dortmund in Germany. His SSC (Dhakil) and HSC (Alim) Certificates are identified from a traditional Madrasah and humanities background.

He is going to pursue his master’s in ‘Religion, Ethics, and Politics’ programme at this prestigious German university without paying any tuition fees.

Jahid completed his Dakhil (Secondary) from Uttar Akakhazana Dakhil Madrasah in 2017, achieving a GPA of 4.65 and his Alim (Higher Secondary) from Bairagibazar Alim Madrasah in 2019 with a GPA of 4.93. Later, he enrolled the Department of Al-Hadith and Islamic Studies at Islamic University Kushtia.

Though opportunities for sufficient research were limited during his University’s studies, his passion for research never gave up inspiration. He began preparing taking the IELTS exam and application process that started nearly 28 months ago.

Overcoming Financial and Academic Strategy:

Discussing the financial aspects of studying in Germany, Jahid noted that while public universities do not charge tuition fees, international students must prove their financial self-sufficiency for living expenses. According to requirement, he deposited 12,000 Euros as submitted funds to cover his first year’s living costs. He has already completed this financial process. Jahid firmly believes that the common misconception—humanities students cannot obtaine in research—is entirely false. He pointed out that students from humanities backgrounds are making significant contributions across various fields. However, he noted that many students miss out on international higher education and research opportunities simply because they focus solely on local government job preparations or underestimate their own capabilities.

Advice and Future Aspirations:

Reflecting on his success, Jahid credited his family’s unwavering support, his parents’ prayers, and the constant encouragement of his teachers for helping him realize his dream. For students aspiring to study abroad, Jahid advised them to start preparing early, improve their English language proficiency alongside religious knowledge, and seek guidance from teachers to fulfill university requirements. He also emphasized the importance of staying informed about global educational standards and scholarship opportunities. Jahid aspires to build a career as an academician.
