ACC Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain made this announcement on the occasion of International Anti-Corruption Day on Thursday.
In his written speech, he emphasized the significance of observing this day annually. To mark the occasion, the Anti-Corruption Commission has organized programs at both central and field levels.
Mahbub Hossain highlighted corruption as a major hindrance to peace, security, and development, adversely affecting all aspects of societal progress.
He emphasized that corruption weakens the rule of law, perpetuates poverty, facilitates the illicit use of resources, and disrupts peace processes by funding armed conflicts.
The theme for this year’s International Anti-Corruption Day, set by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), is “We are united against corruption for the sake of development, peace, and security.” The primary objective is to foster global unity against corruption.
Reflecting on the initiative, the ACC secretary mentioned that, as a member state of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC), the Bangladesh Anti-Corruption Commission has been observing International Anti-Corruption Day since 2007. The commission has extended its celebration of the day nationwide at the national level since 2017, following the directives of the cabinet department.
The ACC ceremony on Saturday will be attended by President Mohammed Shahabuddin, chief justice, among other dignitaries.
