The sacrifice of the July warriors is the inspiration for our future path – Dr. Mohammad Abdur Rob

ET Desk: A discussion and prayer meeting titled “From Campus to Highway: The Role of Private Universities in the July Movement” was held to mark the martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Shakil Parvez and Shaheed Ahnaf Abir Ashrafullah, two students of Manarat International University, in the July Revolution.

The discussion meeting and prayer meeting were held at the university’s Ashulia permanent campus auditorium on Saturday (August 2) as part of a series of programs to commemorate the July Revolution 2024.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. Mohammad Abdur Rob, presided over the meeting.

Asif Mahtab Utsa, a prominent educationist and July fighter, spoke as the Chief speaker at the discussion meeting and prayer meeting.

Writer and social activist Maliha Namla spoke about the contribution of women in the movement.

Shaheed Shakil Parvez’s father Belayet Hossain, Shaheed Ahnaf’s elder sister Advocate Syeda Akhtar, and Saif Arefin Rahat, a journalism student at the university who lost his eye in a police firing during the movement, spoke at the event.

The martyrs’ classmates and fellow fighters, Masuda Khadija, a student of the EEE department, Walid Bin Jamal, a student of the Law department, Sirajam Munira, a student of the English department, Khaled Saifullah Murad, a student of the Pharmacy department, and Atiq Hasan, a student of the Business Administration department, spoke at the commemoration of the July Revolution.

University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Abdur Rob said, “After two years of being under occupation, Manarat International University has been liberated again thanks to the blood of the martyrs. Paying tribute to this sacrifice, the Manarat family will always stand by the martyrs’ families in joy and sorrow.”

He said, “The sacrifice of the July warriors is the inspiration for our future path. Keeping their memories in the jewels of our hearts, we will all together take this university forward in the arena of higher education.”

Demanding speedy justice for the murder of his son, Shaheed Shakil Parvez, his father Belayet Hossain said, “We stand on the blood of all martyrs including Shaheed Shakil, Shaheed Ahnaf, Sayeed, Mughd and others. To repay the debt of this blood, we all have to unite and take the country and nation forward on the right path.”

“If this journey of establishing justice and standing for truth stops, the sacrifices of the martyrs will be in vain.”

Shaheed Ahnaf’s sister, Advocate Syeda Akhtar, said, “Ahnaf always dreamed of a corruption-free, justice-based state. He had an infinite hatred against injustice and injustice. He dedicated his life for the country to realize that dream and ideal.”

“Now it is our responsibility to fight from our respective positions to fulfill that dream.”

A documentary film made by students of the Business Administration and EEE departments in memory of Shaheed Shakil Parvez and Shaheed Ahnaf was screened at the event. Later, the Vice-Chancellor presented honorary cash awards to Shaheed Shakil’s father and Shaheed Ahnaf’s mother.

Dean of the University’s School of Arts and Humanities, Professor Dr. Abu Ayub Md. Ibrahim, led the prayer for the forgiveness of the souls of the martyrs and the speedy recovery of the injured.
