IU Correspondent: Islamic University (IU) authority is going to make out academic collaboration, student exchange, and joint educational initiatives between Islamic University and higher education institutions in Japan.

Vice-Chancellor, Islamic University, Professor Dr. A. K. M. Motinur Rahman hosts a courtesy meeting with a Japanese delegation to focus on exploring opportunities to academic competency. The meeting was held at the Platinum Grand Hotel in Banani, Dhaka, on Wednesday (12 August).

The meeting included discussions on academic exchange and the introduction of a ‘2+2’ academic programme. Under the proposed programme, eligible students would have the opportunity to complete the first two years of their undergraduate studies at Islamic University and the subsequent two years at a partner higher education institution in Japan.
Subject to the prescribed academic requirements and programme structure, students would have the opportunity to obtain an official certificate from the Japanese institution upon completion of the programme.

The proposed academic collaboration is expected to expand opportunities for Islamic University students to gain international academic experience and enhance their academic and professional competencies. It is also anticipated that the initiative would create new avenues for knowledge sharing, research collaboration, and student mobility between higher education institutions in Bangladesh and Japan.

As a next step, the Japanese delegation is expected to visit Islamic University soon, during which more detailed discussions will be held on the proposed academic collaboration. The discussions are expected to cover the structure of the ‘2+2’ programme, curriculum compatibility, student mobility, mutual academic recognition, and other related matters. Through subsequent bilateral discussions, both sides hope to develop the initiative into a structured and sustainable framework for academic cooperation.

The Japanese delegation included Dr. Yoshio Maeda, Visiting Professor at Tokai University, Japan; Toshiyuki Maeda, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pathfinder Company; and Dr. Wu Mengke, Research Fellow at the South Asian Studies Center of Shanghai Institutes, among others.
