Sylhet Correspondent: The Sylhet Development Authority (SDA) has embarked on a new chapter with the commitment to transform Sylhet into a well-planned, livable, and safe city. Responding to long-standing expectations, the authority has officially launched a process—completed within just 15 working days—to issue land-use clearances, building design approvals, and registration certificates for professionals and institutions. This marks a tangible step forward in establishing order within the realms of building construction, land use, and urban planning in Sylhet.
On Tuesday (November 3) at 11:00 AM, an event was held at the Sylhet Development Authority office in Naiorpul, during which approval letters and registration certificates were handed over to building owners, architects, engineers, and representatives of various organizations. The Chairman of the Sylhet Development Authority, Rezaul Hasan Koyes Ludi, attended the event as the chief guest and distributed these certificates.
At the event, building design approval documents were handed over to three building owners, land-use clearances to nine individuals, and registration certificates to five architects and six engineers. Additionally, registration certificates were awarded to six real estate development firms and five technical consultancy firms.
Rezaul Hasan Koyes Ludi, Chairman of SIUK, stated that since the commencement of operations, the processes for issuing land-use clearances, approving building designs, and registering architects and engineers have been advanced through consultations with stakeholders. As part of this ongoing effort, the distribution of certificates to 315 professionals, organizations, architects, and engineers has been initiated over the past two months. Concurrently, approved building designs have also been handed over to the respective building owners.
He stated that completing these activities over the past two months is a significant achievement for CUK. This progress was made possible within a short timeframe through the cooperation of the Executive Director, relevant officials, and all stakeholders. He expressed optimism that this momentum will continue in the future.
The Chairman of the Development Authority (CIUK) believes that in urban planning, merely granting approval is not enough; it is equally essential to ensure that buildings are constructed in accordance with the approved designs. For this reason, construction activities are being monitored through inspections to verify that they align with the sanctioned plans. Furthermore, efforts are being made to raise awareness among both building owners and those responsible for supervising the construction work.
