Traveler, organizer, and writer Jabed Ahmed inaugurated Cyclone USA.

Haran Kanti Sen, Michigan (USA): ‘Cyclone’ is a social, literary, and cultural organization with which we have been associated since our early days (1980). Cyclone has worked to assist people in the community during various crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic. There is a segment of our society that, despite facing extreme hardship, never asks anyone for help.

During the pandemic, we provided financial assistance to many such individuals via bKash, maintaining strict confidentiality. Even while visiting the United States, I had the opportunity to meet many members of the ‘Cyclone’ family. We hope that ‘Cyclone USA’ will henceforth collaborate closely with the central ‘Cyclone’ organization to advance and expand its activities.

These remarks were made by Jabed Ahmed, the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of “Cyclone USA” and a former president of Cyclone. Established in 1980, the social organization “Cyclone” has continued its activities in various countries around the world, including the UK and Canada. Zaker Ahmed Chowdhury, the organization’s president, presided over the inaugural ceremony of “Cyclone USA” held at 8:00 PM on Saturday, October 10, 2026.

At the start of the meeting held at the legendary Aladdin Restaurant—famously known as ‘Madhur Canteen’—on Conant Street in Hamtramck, the chief guest was welcomed with flowers by Board of Directors members Sharmila Deb Shormi and Mahmudul Haque Litu. The event was conducted by Haran Kanti Sen, former President of Cyclone Central Parliament (Sylhet) and spokesperson for Cyclone USA.

The chief guest—traveler, organizer, writer, and banker Javed Ahmed—inaugurated “Cyclone USA” by cutting a cake. Sanjay Deb, General Secretary of “Cyclone USA,” delivered the welcome address. Also present and speaking at the event were journalist Shafik Rehman, poets Subimal Senapati and Kalyani Deb Chowdhury, Md. Abdul Jabbar (retired Joint Director of the Bangladesh Bank Head Office), and Md. Mostafa Kamal (Assistant Professor at Shahjalal University). Mosharraf Litu, Director of Aladdin Restaurant & Sweetmeat and former organizer of Mohammedan, Sylhet; Mamunul Huda Khan, General Secretary of Golapganj Helping Hands, US; Foysal Chowdhury; Shahiduzzaman Chowdhury; Tipu Chowdhury; Mahfuzur Rahman; and others.

In his brief remarks, Zakir Ahmed Chowdhury stated, “Although I never sought a leadership role within the organization, I have consistently continued my activities. Moving forward, we will advance the ‘Cyclone USA’ initiatives together.” The event concluded with a dinner for all attendees.

It is worth noting that many friends, relatives, and former colleagues began gathering at Aladdin Restaurant from the evening onwards to meet travel writer Jabed Ahmed. The committee for the newly formed “Cyclone USA” is as follows—President: Zaker Ahmed Chowdhury; General Secretary: Sanjay Deb; Spokesperson: Haran Kanti Sen; Board of Directors: Abul Fayez Chowdhury, Pankaj Das, Mahmudul Haque Litu, Zamirul Malik Chowdhury Titu, Tania Akter Lima, Abhi Sen, Sharmila Deb Sharmi, and Pidim Sen Tojo.
