University teachers, advocates, judges, distinguished citizens and journalists from a discussion today urged theinterim government to bring reformation to the country’s each sectors including amending the constitution and ensure justice to all previouscriminal offences including the genocide, crimes, looting and torture carried out by the Awami League in the last 16 years. The citizen group also demanded to abolish the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and formulate a new constitution as the constitution became dysfunctional in terms of ensuring the rights of common people as well as inadequate for building a new Bangladesh which was used by the Awami regime to protect the dictatorship.”The interim government must ensure justice to all the wrongdoings including 2024 genocide, extrajudicial killing, disappearance, suppression and torture conducted by the Awami regime in the last 16 years”, they told a view exchange meeting ‘New Bangladesh, People’s Expectations’ today at Nasrul amid auditorium of Dhaka reporters unity organized by Nabik (Nagorik Bikash o Kollan). They came up with a five point demand in the discussion presided over by Nabik President Barrister Shihab Uddin Khan, with Vice President Burhan Uddin Faisal presenting the concept paper. In the concept paper, Nabik’s Vice President Burhan Uddin outlined five demands: the abolition of RAB due to human rights violations; radical reforms of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) and police; strict prosecution of those linked to Awami fascism with confiscation of assets acquired through corruption; the drafting of a new people-friendly Constitution; the appointment of new judges committed to justice; and the repeal of all black laws including cyber security laws, to establish a just society “Appropriate measures must be taken to seize the black money and resources Awami leaders and its associates obtained through corruption and looting and take all the money to the state treasury”, said the speakers.”In the new Bangladesh, We do not want to see an internationally controversial force for human rights violation, extrajudicial killings and disappearances and thus, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) should be abolished immediately”, said the speakers. They said the intelligence agency DGFI should be completely restructured with a new name to establish this civil status and human rights because the agency has been known to the public as a very brutal and terrifying force for creating secret torture cell like ‘Aynaghor’ and helping the dictator. They also demanded to bring radical reformation to the Police forces as the force has lost people’s trust as it has been used against the people to carry out brutality on opposition and common people during the student movement and in the entire fascist 16-year Awami regime. The former judges in the discussion have urged the interim government to bring radical reformation to the Judiciary to make it truly independent and appoint the people qualified and committed to law as judges as well as abolishing all the all black laws and regulations such as the Cyber Security Act 2023.The loyal judges of the fascist Awami government have played heinous roles in the recent student uprising and in the oppression of countless people in the country over the past decade as well as the High Court failing to protect the fundamental and democratic rights of the people, they added. Tahmid Muddassir Chowdhury, coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement; Dr Mozaherul Haque, former advisor to the World Health Organization in Southeast Asia; Nur Khan Liton, lawyer and human rights activist; Golam Rabbani, professor at Jahangirnagar University; Colonel (Retd) Mohammad Abdul Hoque, security analyst; Barrister Mustasim Tanzir, Supreme Court lawyer; and Maruf Hossain, architect, among others, were present.
