Desk Report : Author, researcher and Senior economic reporter Abdul Awal (Awal Chowdhury) has left a mark of unique achievements in journalism. He has already received many awards as recognition. He recently received the ‘Global Youth Leadership Award’ held in Dubai. This award is given to outstanding achievers from different countries of the world.

This summit was held in Dubai from March 17 to March 20 this year. At this time, Abdullah Ahmed Al Saleh, Under Secretary of the Ministry of Economy of the United Arab Emirates, gave the award to him.

Minister Counselor Trond H Glomans Rudi of Norwegian Embassy, ​​Dmytro Senik, Ambassador of Ukraine to UAE, Ambassador of Cuba, Head of Mission of Serbia Embassy were present as special guests. President of Global youth parlament, Diwakar Aryal, served as the chair in the summit.

Awal Chowdhury earlier received the ‘Songsoptok-22’ award in journalism from the national organization Songsoptok. Sher-E-Bangla A.K Fazlul Hoque Research Council awarded her ‘Sher-E-Bangla Golden Award’ in Investigative Journalism. Besides, Asian University of Bangladesh gives award for contribution in ‘investigative journalism and establishment of library’.

He has been associated with the journalism profession for two decades. He has numerous reports on banking, insurance, economic development and constraints, agricultural economics. The ups and downs of the capital market, manipulation of businessmen, inconsistencies, corruption, irregularities and nepotism have been playing a strong role. His investigative report on the deepest wounds of the society shook the society. Throughout his writings, stories of the struggles, pains and achievements of marginalized people emerge.

Currently, he is working as a senior staff reporter in Ekushey Television Limited, a reputed company in Bangladesh. Before this, he has worked in various media including Daily Jugantor, DTV, Daily Desh Bartaman, Daily Amader Orthonity.

Abdul Awal has tried to enrich himself through training in various local and foreign institutions including the Government Mass Media Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB), Press Council. Expanded the scope of knowledge by participating in the annual conference of World Bank and IMF in 2022 in Washington DC, USA. Besides, he attended various conferences in Singapore, Malaysia and India.

Awal Chowdhury obtained his master’s degree from Jagannath University. Apart from journalism, he is involved in multidimensional work in the country. He is associated with research work on improving the quality of life of marginalized people including agricultural development, human death due to lightning. Participated in online conferences in various international seminars including Salnet during Covid.

Awal Chowdhury was born in Chowdhury Bari of Kashipur village of Chhagalnaiya police station in Feni district. From his own village he started the work of enlightening the society. He established ‘Kashipur Chowdhury Library’ with his friends on January 1, 2009 to make the people of the area interested in reading books. With the initiative of this library, many activities started to build an illiterate free society with a group of young people. By keeping magazines regularly in the library, a sensation is created among the people and people come from far and wide to read the magazines and books. In this program with the youth, a new change began in the region.

After that, he established a social organization called ‘Lamp Bangladesh’ in 2015 to stand by the neglected people of the society. Through this organization, the neglected women and children of the society are supported in various ways. There are various activities especially for the development of orphans and street children. At present there are two ‘Lamp Schools’ functioning in the capital. Where street children are given free education and food.

Apart from this, this social organization plays a special role in any disaster, national and foreign day celebration and environment protection – planting trees. He is serving as its president. This organization stood by hundreds of people during Covid. Rice, pulses, onions, and potatoes are delivered to the homes of the needy. Plays a major role in blood collection and ambulance services for emergency patients.

Awal Chowdhury is also playing a unique role in writing. Meanwhile, his book ‘Afsana’ was widely appreciated after it was published in Ekushey Granthmela. The book managed to catch the attention of the readers. Besides, he has also written about economics and journalism.
