Staff correspondent :
Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League (AL) Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud today said being annoyed with BNP leaders Tarique Rahman deployed ‘petrol bomb squad’ for setting fire on vehicles and attack on police.
He said while addressing a rally organized by Chattogram North District Awami League against BNP’s anarchy and vandalism at Dost building area in the city as chief guest.
“We have sufficient proof that Tarique Rahman engaged his ‘bomb exploding squad’ as he could not keep confidence in BNP leaders to create turmoil in the country,” the minister said.
Tarique Rahman himself has called BNP leaders at ward level asking them to go for rampage, set fire on transports and on law enforcing agencies, he said.
In the same style, BNP deployed petrol-bomb squad in 2013, 2014 and 2015 to ruin the country, he added.
Dr Hasan said, “You have listened to the audio record of BNP leader Nipun Roy’s speech which has become viral on social media, where she was directing BNP leaders and workers to carry out atrocities.”
He said you know that BNP held a rally in Dhaka on Friday. At the same time, our Jubo League, Chhatra League and Swechchhasebok League held a huge rally.
“Two huge gatherings were held at a distance of only one kilometer, but there was no disturbance at all in Dhaka city because our party leaders and workers and the administration kept on watchful eye,” the information Minister said.
Stating that no one has been given the right to block the pathways of the people of Dhaka, the AL joint general secretary said, “BNP blocked the entrances to the capital (on Saturday) with the intention of creating a disorder in the country. Around two crore people live in the Dhaka city and no one has been given the right to disturb their free movement in this way.”
“Everyone has the right to hold political programs against the government, speak against the government,” he said.
The minister said it is our responsibility as a government party to stand by the people. So that, those who tried to cause suffering to the people with such destructive programme, cannot do so.
“The leaders and activists of our party were on alert at the entrance of Dhaka, so that no one could destroy the peace and order. They attacked on police, people and buses at different places in Dhaka city in the same way as they did in 2013, 2014 and 2015,” the minister said.
The Awami League joint general secretary said BNP torched seven buses in the first-half of Saturday, setting fire to more vehicles during the night.
He said the bus owners may bought those buses with their hard-earned money having dreams, but BNP men torched the buses. It cannot be a programme of any political party, he said.
Dr Hasan said that Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday held a press conference and denied any involvement in the arson and vandalism.
“A disgusting liar like him (Fakhrul) was never born in Bangladesh. If anyone becomes champion in lying, it would be him. Such a disgusting lying politician has never been born in Bangladesh. There are video footages of those who set fire on the car. After watching the video footage, they will be arrested and legal action will be taken against them,” he added.
The bad, non-political policy of Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir should be thrown into the Bay of Bengal, Dr Hasan added.
“Anti-liberation local and foreign forces had killed our freedom loving people in 1971 too. The people liberated the country by sacrificing their lives. Today, the people also won’t allow anyone to hand-over the country’s land and property to world merchants. They will resist it,” he said.
The information minister also urged the party leaders and activists to work together to bring Awami League back to power to sustain the momentum of development.
The function was addressed, among others, by Chattogram north district AL vice-president Abul Kashem Chisty and its general secretary Sheikh Ataur Rahman with Chattogram north district AL president MA Salam in the chair
Later, the minister distributed cheques amounting Taka 34 lakh to 42 journalists at a cheque distribution function at Chattogram Press Club, organized by the Chattogram Union of Journalists (CUJ).
