IGP pays homage to Sheikh Kamal on his 74th birth anniversary

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun today paid glowing tributes to valiant Freedom Fighter Shaheed Captain Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, in the city marking his 74th birth anniversary.Abdullah Al-Mamun, also President of Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation, showed his respect to the eldest son of Father of the Nation by placing a wreath at his portrait on the Abahani club premises in city’s Dhanmondi area on behalf of the Federation this morning marking the birthday, a press release said.Additional Inspector General (Addl IG) of Police, Chief of Tourist Police unit and General Secretary of Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation Habibur Rahman, officials concerned of Kabaddi Federation and Bangladesh Kabaddi National Team players were also present there.Sheikh Kamal was born in Tungipara village of Gopalganj on August 5 in 1949.Sheikh Kamal, also brother of Awami League President and incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was one of the pioneers of modern football in Bangladesh and also founder-president of Abahani Krira Chakra.Kamal was a member of the Chhatra League central committee when he embraced martyrdom on August 15 in 1975 at the age of only 26.
