Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said after failing to wage movements BNP brought out mourning processions carrying black flags.
“BNP claimed their movement as mass procession. How can it be a mass procession without participation of commoners? The Awami League will show BNP what a mass procession is,” the AL general secretary said while addressing at a peace rally arranged by AL’s Dhaka city south unit at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city.
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said, “The procession of AL means huge gathering of people. Awami League will arrange a youth rally on September 1 where millions of youths will participate. Millions of youth will hold procession carrying the flags of the victory not the mourning flags.”
Mentioning that throats of BNP leaders got dry, Quader said, “There is no strength in BNP’s procession and rally. All of their strength is declining.” Claiming that the BNP’s movement diminished in Golapbagh cattle haat, he said BNP holds “picnic parties” in the name of rally.
Quader said while the country’s 70 percent people want Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the BNP leaders are daydreaming of AL government’s fall.
“How will the BNP oust the person who is loved by people?” he questioned.
Stating that BNP is spreading panic among people over sanctions and visa policy, the road transport minister said Bangladesh is a country of freedom fighters, not of any evil forces.
“We do not think that Bangladesh is safe under a corrupt party like BNP. If the Awami League remains united, our victory in the next general election is certain,” he said.
Chaired by Dhaka South City AL president Abu Ahmed Mannafi, the peace rally was addressed, among others, by AL presidium member Dr Mustafa Jalal Mohiuddin, its joint general secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, organising secretary SM Kamal Hossain and central committee member Sanjida Khanam.
