Foreign Minister Dr A K Abdul Momen today said US President Joe Biden had termed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s development achievement as “impressive” while the two heads of government interacted during the G20 Summit in New Delhi recently.
“They (Sheikh Hasina and Joe Biden) discussed for a long in a very warm gesture … they looked very happy,” he said at the ministry when a journalist asked about the PM’s discussion with President Biden during the September 9-10 G20 summit.
“I know it …your achievements are very impressive,” Momen quoted President Biden as saying to PM Hasina.
Momen said the prime minister conveyed to Biden that she lost her father – Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman – and her family members and she considers the people of Bangladesh as her family.
“I have a big family of 170 million people in the country,” Momen quoted her as telling Biden, adding that her aim is to give these people a better life by fulfilling all basic needs.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had the interaction with the US president after holding a meeting with her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi in Delhi on September 9.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s daughter and autism expert Saima Wazed also joined the chat with the two leaders.
Saima also uploaded several pictures of the US president the Bangladesh premier and she herself where they were seen in smiling faces. In one photograph, Biden was seen taking selfie using his own mobile phone with Sheikh Hasina and her daughter.
The photographs also grabbed Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen and his US counterpart Anthony Blinken standing nearby facing the trio.
The Bangladesh premier attended the summit at the invitation of her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, the event’s host this year, along with other global leaders.
“Our participation in G20 was very successful … huge attention had been drawn towards us due to leadership of our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her success in diplomacy and development,” Dr Momen said.
