Staff correspondent :
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said that the BNP-Jamaat alliance made Keraniganj a town of terror. During BNP they sponsored terrorism in Keraniganj.
He said these things in his speech as the chief guest at the Konda Union Awami League workers meeting at Ainta Ground of Konda Union in South Keraniganj on Friday afternoon.
Nasrul Hamid said, Keraniganj was once known as a town of terror. Despite being very close to Dhaka, neither the BNP-Jamaat alliance nor the military dictatorship governments have made any development in Keraniganj. That’s why Keraniganj was called darkness under the lamp.
He also said that the previous governments established a reign of terror, extortion and murder. There was no security for the life and property of the common people. Political terror was the daily companion of the area under the patronage of the previous governments. Things like general movement of people, security became difficult. Business was at a standstill. People’s morale was broken.
He said, during Amanullah Aman’s time, false and fabricated cases were common in this area. There were more than 450 false and fabricated cases against our leaders and workers. There were thousands of leaders and workers who were defendants in those cases.
The state minister said, ‘We were hoping to get rid of that situation. We got rid of it when Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formed the government in 2009 with the manifesto of change of day in 2008. No one in Keraniganj can say that there has been any political violence, terrorism or false cases in the last 15 years. We have done everything we can to maintain political coexistence or peace and order in the area. One thing we can say with certainty is that we have removed the fear, apprehension and doubt among people. I brought back their lost courage and morale. We have not condoned any terrorism, extortion politically. We have worked relentlessly to bring back the courage and morale of all people.’
Nasrul Hamid said that during the previous BNP-Jamaat coalition government or dictatorial governments, the country’s folk culture, culture and sports were lost. A dangerous culture like drugs and militancy had taken root in the country. We have worked to overcome them. Not just the development of school buildings or roads, we have walked the path of overall development for the last 15 years. We emphasize on cultural activities and sports to build a healthy and beautiful generation free from drugs.
