Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today sought technical assistance from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to develop skilled manpower for quality aviation services and aircraft maintenance. He said, “Bangladesh hopes that ICAO will provide technical assistance in providing aviation navigation services in accordance with ICAO standards and developing skilled manpower for quality control of maintenance of aircraft registered in Bangladesh.”
ICAO Council President Salvatore Sciacchitano and ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar Gomez called on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a courtesy call at Ganabhaban, her official residence.
After the meeting, Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed the journalists. In the press briefing, he said that during the meeting, Sheikh Hasina expressed her hope that ICAO will help Bangladesh in creating skilled manpower to control aircraft maintenance while maintaining ICAO’s standards. At that time, the Prime Minister said that Bangladesh will be an aviation center connecting East and West. For that purpose the government is developing their airports accordingly. And that is why he is seeking ICAO’s help in this regard.
The President of ICAO Council said that the aviation sector has huge potential in Bangladesh. He assured that ICAO will help Bangladesh in this sector. Referring to the grand opening of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport’s third terminal, Salvatore Ciachitano said, “This terminal is beautiful, which will help ensure the safety and comfort of air passengers.” He also said, ‘The main task will be to ensure the safety of the passengers.’ In this context, the President of ICAO Council enthusiastically praised the steps taken by Sheikh Hasina’s government for the development of connectivity.
The Prime Minister said that his government is emphasizing on protecting the environment. The government is very careful to protect the environment and Bangladesh emits very little carbon. But despite this, the country is the worst affected. Sheikh Hasina said that her party Awami League has been following the footsteps of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman since 1985 and has been carrying out tree plantation campaign. Bangabandhu started a tree plantation program in the country after independence.
