In the capital, eggs are sold in trucks for 12 taka

Staff correspondent :

Marginal farmers’ organization Bangladesh Poultry Association (BPA) is starting to sell eggs at Tk 12 per egg at the fixed rate of the government through Trucksale (Khola Bazar) program. Eggs are brought directly from the farm and sold in the capital through trucks. A buyer can buy a maximum of 30 eggs.
Director General of National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate AHM Safikuzzaman inaugurated this program at TCB building premises in Karwan Bazar on Monday. At this time, the government marketing organization Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) Chairman Brigadier General Md. Ariful Hasan, BPA President Suman Howladar and others were present.
AHM Safikuzzaman said, this initiative has been taken to deliver eggs to the consumers at the price set by the government. He said marginal farmers still produce 80 percent of the country’s eggs. But the corporate organizations are controlling the egg market of the whole country. We are sponsoring this initiative of marginal farmers to keep the egg market healthy.
Safikuzzaman said that this initiative of selling eggs directly to farmers will be fruitful to reduce the violence of middlemen in the market.
He said, we have continued to conduct market operations to control the price of eggs. He expressed hope that this initiative of selling eggs to marginal farmers will play a special role in price control.
It is to be noted that in order to control the market, the Animal Husbandry Ministry fixed the price of eggs at the producer level at 10 taka 50 paisa and at the retail market at 12 taka in the month of August. The Ministry of Commerce has already allowed the import of 15 crore eggs in three phases to ensure the sale of eggs at the fixed price. Yesterday, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi told the media that the consignment of imported eggs will reach the country this week.
BPA president Suman Howladar said to the bus, ‘In view of the application from our organization, we have received permission from the consumer department to sell eggs at truck sale at the price set by the government. We will conduct this program together with some entrepreneurs. For the time being, sales have started today at Caravan Bazaar. Eggs will be sold at 19 more points in the capital this week.
He said that each truck with 30 to 40 thousand eggs will be at the designated place. A consumer can buy a maximum of 30 eggs.
