The deep depression over west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas has moved slightly north-northeastward and intensified into Cyclone ‘Hamun’ and is currently located over west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal. .
According to the special weather bulletin this evening, Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra sea ports have been asked to lower local warning signal number 3 and display local warning signal number 4 instead.
The cyclone was located 670 km west-southwest of Chittagong seaport, 630 km west-southwest of Cox’s Bazar seaport, 540 km southwest of Mongla seaport and 540 km southwest of Payra seaport at 6 pm today. It may move further north-northeast and intensify.
Maximum sustained wind speed is 62 km/h within 54 km of the cyclone center, increasing to 88 km/h in gusty form. The sea is very rough in the vicinity of the cyclone center.
The advance of the cyclone may cause heavy to very heavy rainfall with gusty/gusty winds over North Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.
Fishing boats and trawlers in North Bay of Bengal and deep sea have been asked to move to safe shelter as soon as possible.
