ET Desk: Sadhan Chandra Majumder, Member of Parliament of Naogaon-1 Constituency has again got the responsibility of Food Ministry in the new cabinet of the government.
Sadhan Chandra Majumdar’s ancestral home is Shibpur village of Niamatpur upazila of Naogaon district. His father’s name is Kamini Kumar Majumder and mother’s name is Savitri Bala Majumder. Sadhan Chandra Majumdar is the eighth among nine siblings. He lost his father when he was in sixth grade.
He passed SSC from Naogaon KD Government High School and HSC from Chaumuhani Government Degree College. He obtained his BA degree from Naogaon Degree College. Joined Chhatra League in 1967 while studying at Chaumuhani College.
Sadhan Chandra Majumdar contested the 1996 and 2001 parliamentary elections from Naogaon-1 seat, but was defeated by Chalek Chowdhury of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. On December 29, 2008, he was elected Member of Parliament from Naogaon-1 (Niyamatpur-Porsha-Sapahar) on the nomination of Bangladesh Awami League in the 9th National Parliament Election. He was a member of the Standing Committee on Ministry of Religion in the 9th National Parliament.
Then on January 5, 2014, when the opposition parties led by BNP boycotted the election in the 10th National Parliament election, he was elected as a Member of Parliament unopposed. In the 10th National Parliament, he served as a member of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.
