Staff Report: R A M Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury has been given the responsibility of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works of the Awami League government formed under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the fourth consecutive time in the 12th National Parliament election. Who was appointed to the cabinet for the first time in his long political career.

R A M Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury, He was a brilliant student leader. Active participation in the liberation war. After that he did government job. Retired and returned to politics. Has been a member of Parliament for four times. R. A. M. Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury got the reward of that colorful political life. This Member of Parliament of Bahmanbaria-3 (Sadar-Bijaynagar) Constituency has been appointed as Minister.

Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury was born on March 1, 1955 in Chinair village of Machihata Union of Brahmanbaria Sadar Upazila in a noble Muslim family. His father’s name is Md. Abdur Rauf Chowdhury. After passing Fazil from Dhaka Madrasa-e-Alia, he did his Higher Secondary from Dhaka College and Honors and Masters in Political Science from Dhaka University. He was the first general secretary elected by direct vote of the students of Dhaka College Students’ Union in 1969.

He served as the co-general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League Central Student Council in 1970. When Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury took part in the liberation war under Mujib’s forces in 1971, he was injured in one of his legs by firing from Pakistani forces. In 1973-74, he was the publication editor of Central Chhatra League and in 1975, when Bakshal was formed, he was nominated as a member of the Central Committee of Chhatra League with 21 members.

When Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s family was assassinated in 1975, he contributed to the nationwide democratic student movement and resistance.

Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury played a role as one of the organizers of the first protest march in Dhaka University on 20th October 1975 in protest against the assassination of Bangabandhu and on 4th November in the streets of Dhaka. Following this, he was arrested in October 1976 and imprisoned for almost two years and was released in September 1978 on the orders of the High Court.

He passed the BCS examination in 1983 and joined the administration cadre and in 1986 served as the private secretary to the opposition leader of the National Assembly, Sheikh Hasina. From 1996-2001, he served as Private Secretary to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Later he left government service and concentrated on politics.

On November 22, 2010, Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury, the then Member of Parliament for Brahmanbaria Sadar Constituency, Advocate Lutful Hai Sacchu, died, and was elected as a Member of Parliament for the first time as a candidate of Awami League in the by-election of this constituency. Later he was elected as a Member of Parliament for the second time in the 10th National Parliament Elections and for the third time in the 11th National Parliament Elections. 

Moktadir Chowdhury MP served as the President of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Water Resources in the 9th National Parliament, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts in the 10th National Parliament and the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism in the 11th National Parliament. Last January 7, he won the 12th National Assembly election in Brahmanbaria-3 (Sadar-Bijayanagar) constituency for the fourth time with the boat symbol.
