Chittagong City Corporation (CHSIC) Mayor Bir Muktijoddha Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury has expressed his firm conviction to clear encroachments on roads, footpaths and drains in the metropolis.
The mayor expressed this assurance in a meeting held at Chasik’s office today with representatives of various law and order forces to make the ongoing evacuation operation in the city a success.
The mayor accepted the various suggestions of the representatives and announced to continue the operation.
The mayor said, ‘to reduce the suffering and accidents of people, the campaign to evict the illegal occupants is going on and this trend will continue. No pressure or anyone’s words will stop this campaign. My aim is to de-clutter and beautify the heart of the city, especially Newmarket, Agrabad and GEC intersections. I want the cooperation of all concerned including the law and order forces to implement this goal.
In the meeting, Chittagong Metropolitan Police Commissioner Krishna Pad Roy said, ‘If everyone works together in response to the mayor’s initiative to save the sidewalks, it is possible to keep the sidewalks of Chittagong free of encroachment.’
