Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma, on behalf of himself and the people of Assam, congratulated Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on assuming the charge of Prime Minister for the fourth consecutive term with an absolute victory. High Commissioner of Bangladesh assigned to India in Assam Legislative Assembly Secretariat on Tuesday afternoon. Chief Minister Sharma congratulated Mustafizur Rahman when he went to pay a courtesy call on the Chief Minister of Assam. 
Chief Minister Sharma emphasized on the establishment of an Economic Corridor connecting Bangladesh and Northeast India to accelerate the prosperity, development and economic growth of the region. He highlighted various Japanese investments and ongoing projects in North East India and also discussed the potential of Matarbari deep sea port to create an industrial value chain in the region with Japanese cooperation.
Highlighting the excellent bilateral relations existing between the two countries, the High Commissioner said that Bangladesh wants to contribute to the peace, stability and development of the north-eastern states of India with a good-neighborly and friendly attitude. He emphasized on expanding trade with these states, increasing road, rail and sea connectivity and strengthening people-to-people contacts.
Besides, the High Commissioner of Bangladesh requested the Chief Minister to resume Dhaka-Guwahati flights, set up a number of integrated border check posts and open a regional registration office for foreigners in Guwahati to facilitate extension of visas for Bangladeshi nationals coming to Northeast India.
Chief Minister Sharma expressed interest in visiting Bangladesh at an opportune time. 
Prior to his visit to Assam, High Commissioner Rahman attended the fourth edition of the India-Japan Intellectual Conclave held in Shillong, Meghalaya at the invitation of Asian Confluence.
