Dhaka to call for stopping war at G20 meeting: Dr Momen

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen yesterday said Dhaka would propose New Delhi to raise the demand of stopping Russia-Ukraine conflict during the G20 foreign minister’s meeting.“We have many suggestions that India could raise at G20 … we will advocate to stop the war (between Russian and Ukraine) … to make environment for ensuring peaceful development,” Momen told the reporters after attending a discussion at Jatiya Press Club here.The Bangladesh foreign minister will attend the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting in New Delhi on March 1-2. Bangladesh would also put forward its views for proper implementation of SDGs during the meeting, Dr Momen said. The G20 foreign ministers’ meeting will focus on strengthening multilateralism and deepening cooperation on food and energy security, sustainable development, counter-narcotics, global health, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, and gender equality and women’s empowerment.Momen said that he would have a number of bilateral meetings with his counter parts including Indian, France and Sweden on the sidelines of the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting in New Delhi on March 1-2Asked whether there is any planned meeting with US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken on the sidelines of G20, Dr Momen said he will be traveling to the USA in April at the invitation of the US side where he will have the meeting.India, holding the G20 presidency, has invited Bangladesh, Egypt, Mauritius, Netherlands, Nigeria, Oman, Singapore, Spain and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as guest countries to its meetings and summit, according to the Ministry of External Affairs, India.Under its presidency, India is expected to host over 200 G20 meetings across the country this year. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been invited to attend the 18th G20 Heads of State and Government Summit which will take place during September 9-10 this year in New Delhi.“We feel very much honored,” Momen said.
