Investigation Committees: Are They Helping or Hiding?

Insan Ali

When something goes wrong at a university, like a student passing away or a teacher being accused of something, an investigation committee is formed to find out what happened. But sometimes, these committees don’t do what they’re supposed to do. Instead of finding the truth, they hide it.

Take the case of Shahriar, a student who tragically died. A committee was set up to find out what happened, but it didn’t do much. It seemed like they just wanted the whole thing to go away, leaving Shahriar’s family and friends with no answers.

Then there’s the story of a teacher who was accused of doing something wrong. Another committee was formed to look into it. But when they started asking questions, they were told to stop by the Vice Chancellor, the big boss of the university. It’s like someone didn’t want the truth to come out.

And it’s not just these cases. When I tried to talk to other investigation committees about their work, they didn’t want to talk. They didn’t answer my calls. It’s like they were hiding something too.

But there’s a glimmer of hope. One committee, led by a new Registrar, is actually doing what they’re supposed to do. They’re asking questions and trying to find the truth, even when others want to keep things quiet.

But why should students care? Because when universities keep secrets and don’t tell the truth, it’s not fair to students and teachers. Students have a right to know what’s going on. It’s time for universities to stop hiding behind closed doors and start being honest with students.

Demanding answers and making sure investigation committees are doing their job. Because only when know the truth can trust universities to do the right thing.

For only when the shadows of secrecy are dispelled can the light of truth illuminate the path forward.

Sharing is caring!
