Former DMP chief Asaduzzaman Mia on seven-day remand

A court here today placed former commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Asaduzzaman Mia on seven-day remand in a case lodged over the murder of Nuruzzaman Jony, former general secretary of the Khilgaon Thana unit Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saiful Islam passed the order as police produced Asaduzzaman Mia before the court and pleaded to place him on 10-day remand in the case.

Rapid Action Battalion arrested him from the capital’s Mohakhali area on September 11, RAB Legal and Media Wing Director Lt Colonel Muneem Ferdous confirmed to BSS.

Jony was picked up by detective branch (DB) of police on September 19, 2015, arrested by police and was killed in so called ‘crossfire’ the next day. His father filed the case on September 3, 2024, with Khilgaon Police Station against 62 people including former lawmaker Saber Hossain Chowdhury.
