RAJUK plots to be allotted through lottery by raising quota: Adilur Rahman Khan

ET Desk: Adviser of Housing and Public Works Adilur Rahman Khan said that all the quotas in the plot allocation of Rajuk will be raised and allotment of plots will be done through lottery for the people.

He said this at a discussion meeting organized on the theme of ‘Involve the youth, improve the city’ on the occasion of World Habitat Day 2024 at Rajuk Bhavan on Monday morning. He said, “The place where the youth could speak was closed. We got that opportunity today, we should not miss that opportunity. As much as we can, we will start that change.

The advisor said, “There will be a big change in our mentality, our ministries.” Our institutions including Rajuk will need to change. Many of our facilities have been retained in this quota, that quota.

Adilur Rahman Khan said, “Because of the quota, we will take so many plots, because of the quota, we will take so many plots, all the quotas are lifted.” Why not open to the public? Why is Dhaka city plot not given through lottery? These facilities should be closed.’

Housing and Public Works Adviser said, ‘Youth should be brought forward, the doors are closed so that they cannot come, those doors should be opened for the people of the country, for the youth. Dhaka city is dirty, there are no trees to breathe. Trees have been cut down. Dhaka city is just a concrete city. Environment is neglected here.

This is a challenge for our institutions.

He said, “If we want to plan for urban development, then it should be done now.” If you do it later, it might be too far. There are young people, there are various organizations, there are various professional bodies of citizens, they need to be involved.

The adviser also said that our cities should be made green, people-friendly and suitable for children so that they can grow up and build the country.

Meanwhile, in the speech of the special speaker, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Water Resources, said, “Dhaka has never been young or people.” Because it has not yet developed as a habitable city. Rajuk cannot be run only by bureaucrats. Young people should also be included here.

Moreover, there should not be mega projects in the city, there should also be greening. Plans should be taken on how to create livable cities. Also present at the meeting were United Nations Housing Representative Gowan Lewis, Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works Hamidur Rahman Khan, Rajuk Chairman Major General (Retd.) Md. Siiddikur Rahman Sarkar.
