Moulvibazar Correspondent: A 20-year-old youth, Atik Bin Qayes, was critically injured in a knife attack allegedly carried out by assailants in Rajnagar Upazila of Moulvibazar. After receiving initial treatment at the 250-bed Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital, he was referred to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital due to the severity of his injuries, where he underwent emergency surgery. According to attending physicians, his condition remains critical.
The incident took place at around 11:00 a.m. on Friday (July 3) on a road in Ilashpur village under Tengra Union.
Atik is the only son of Qayes Bin Noor of Panditnagar village in Tengra Union. He is a Hifz student at a local madrasa and the grandson of the late educationist Abdul Noor Master.
According to family members, Umar Mia of Panditnagar village, his son Munna, and several others allegedly intercepted Atik in a premeditated attack and assaulted him with sharp weapons and iron rods. They claim Atik sustained multiple stab wounds to his back before the attackers fled the scene, leaving him seriously injured.
Local residents rescued the victim and rushed him to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
Hospital sources said Atik’s lungs were severely damaged by the stab wounds. His emergency surgery was completed at around 10:00 p.m. on Friday, and he required multiple bags of blood during treatment. He is currently under close medical observation.
Relatives alleged that the attack stemmed from previous disputes and longstanding personal conflicts. However, no official statement has yet been issued by law enforcement regarding the motive behind the incident.
The attack has sparked concern and outrage in the locality. Residents have demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible and exemplary punishment under the law.
According to the victim’s family, preparations are underway to file a case with Rajnagar Police Station.
