ET Desk: Describing Begum Rokeya as the precursor of the women renaissance, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today said the life, works and ideals of Begum Rokeya would inspire immensely the womenfolk to become self-reliant.
“Begum Rokeya’s stance was always against injustice and indiscrimination of the womenfolk through her ageless writings. She inspired the women to become self-reliant and self-respected in the family, society and economy,” he said in a message marking the Begum Rokeya Day, 2024 which coincides her birth and death anniversary .
The illustrious female Begum Rokeya believed that the womenfolk need to be educated to become self-reliant, he said, adding that so, she advocated for raising awareness on social movement to make the women self-reliant overcoming all impediments.
Begum Rokeya considered the education as main tool for establishing self-respect of the women in the society and her basic objective was for women emancipation through education, he said.
“So, Begum Rokeya took the maiden initiative to enlighten the backward Muslim women with the light of education. She had to face radical acts from the conservative people of the society to pursue the message of women emancipation. Despite the fact she was uncompromising and steadfast in her duties and works,” he said.
