Sheikh Mohammad Tajul Islam: Journalist leaders at a programme stressed on holding the immediate trial of those responsible for killing 67 journalists along with mass people during the last 15 years of fascism.
The victim journalists and their families should be given financial assistance. The State should take steps to ensure proper medical care of the injured journalists, they said.
They called for reopening the closed media houses immediately, and freeing mass media from the clutches of evil forces.
Journalists should play a due role so that fascism cannot come back in the country, they remarked while addressing a rally in front of the National Press Club today (Monday).
Bangladesh Rural Journalists’ Association (BRJA) organized the event, marking the July Uprising.
Attending the event as the chief guest, Abul Kashem Chowdhury, a former student leader, expressed his solidarity with the demands of journalists.
He demanded declaring the journalists, who were killed and injured by fascist regime, as ‘National Hero’.
The rally demanded removing henchmen of past fascist regime from BTV, Betar, BSS and Information Ministry.
Mohammad Sakhawat Hossain Ibne Moin Chiwdhury, chairman of BRJA, chaired the event, white it was moderated by Sheikh Mohammad Tajul Islam, secretary general of BRJA.
Mostofa Kamal Mazumder, former editor of the Daily New Nation, was present as a special guest, while Basir Jamal, assistant secretary general of BFUJ and chief reporter of Daily Amar Desh, attended as a chief speaker,
Md. Modabbir Hossain, additional news editor of Bangladesh Pratidin and former senior vice president of BFUJ, Abul Kalam, president of Sylhet Division Journalists’ Association and publicity secretary of DUJ, Md. Sazedul Islam, vice president of BRJA, Imran Ahmed, joint secretary general of BRJA, Taj Uddin Ahmed, organizing secretary of BRJA, among others, spoke on the occasion.
