Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun said police is ready to face any challenges on law and order.“The Prime Minister has declared ‘zero tolerance’ policy against militancy and terrorism. So, all members of the police, administration, public representatives and intelligence agencies have been working together,” he said.Addressing a view exchange meeting with his officers at Sylhet Police Lines Auditorium yesterday, Mamun said, “We have successfully controlled militancy and terrorism. We have enough capacity and preparedness to deal with anyone who will try to deteriorate the law and order situation.”Replying to a question, he said police perform their duties under the Election Commission (EC) during the election period, adding, “Police will perform their duties, which the EC will assign the police in the upcoming national elections.”“Bangladesh Police is a traditional institution which is about 150 years old. Police performed its duties during the elections in the past. In the future, police will carry out the electoral duties with professionalism,” Mamun added.Replying to another question, the IGP said police is successfully performing its duties in controlling law and order in the country.“Police have the manpower, training and capacity to deal any law and order challenges and it is ready to face any challenges related to law and order issues,” he said.About the law and order situation in the Rohingya camp, Mamun said police have been working in the Rohingya camps on law and order issues. “Action was taken against those involved in various criminal activities. Operations are being continued to improve law and order situation in Rohingya camps,” he said.Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) and Sylhet district police organized the meeting.SMP Commissioner Md Ilias Sharif, Sylhet Range DIG Shah Mizan Shafiur Rahman, DIG Armed Police Battalion Shah Abid Hossain, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun and officer officials were present in the meeting.
