Uncultivated fallow land must be brought under cultivation-Md. Zakir Hossain

ET Desk: Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Md. Zakir Hossain said that agro-tourism should be developed in the Sylhet region through the use of modern agricultural technology. Farmers should be trained through the creation and training of agricultural entrepreneurs.

In implementing projects in agriculture, priority should be given to profitable crops for farmers, improving agriculture and increasing yields, and changing dietary habits.

Those involved in agriculture need to be more sincere in increasing agricultural production by adopting information-based plans to bring uncultivated fallow land under cultivation. He called on everyone to work sincerely to modernize the agricultural system.

He also said, Farmers should be advised to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and use biofertilizers and biopesticides to protect soil health. The prices of agricultural products including fertilizers and seeds in the market should be properly monitored. Seed production and storage should be increased at the farmer level.

He instructed those concerned to be vigilant in ensuring that all agricultural statistics are reliable and accurate.

He made the above remarks as the chief guest during an exchange of views with the heads of departments/organizations under the Ministry of Agriculture of Sylhet region on Friday (August 22) under the initiative of the Sylhet Region Agricultural Development Project through Modern Technology.

The meeting was chaired by Dr. Md. Mosharraf Hossain, Additional Director, Department of Agricultural Extension, Sylhet Region, and moderated by Deepak Kumar Das, Acting Deputy Director, Department of Agricultural Extension, Sylhet, as the special guest. Dr. Mohammad Kazi Mujibur Rahman, Additional Director of the (Finance and Administration) Wing of the Department of Agricultural Extension.

Md. Rakib Uddin, Project Director of the Sylhet Region Agricultural Development Project through Modern Technology, and agricultural officials from various districts and upazila levels of Sylhet Division were present at the exchange of views.
