I want to take forward my father’s unfinished work – Samira Chowdhury

ET Desk: Barrister Samira Tanjin Chowdhury, daughter of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia’s political secretary Harish Chowdhury, said, “I did not come to work in Kanaighat as a child of a political family.”

I have come to take forward the unfinished and development works left by my father.

He made these remarks while addressing the chief guest at the condolence meeting and prayer mahfil at the Haris Chowdhury Auditorium at Sarak Bazar High School in Kanaighat Upazila of Sylhet on Wednesday, September 3, marking the fourth death anniversary of Abul Haris Chowdhury.
The condolence meeting was organized by the Haris Chowdhury Foundation.
 In her speech as the chief guest, Barrister Samira Tanjin Chowdhury, founder of the Harish Chowdhury Foundation, also said, “You know how much suffering the degenerate authoritarian government caused my father.”
 If he had behaved normally or surrendered during the fascist regime, the dictatorial regime would have killed him. He expressed regret and said, “When my father died, I could not bury him normally.”
 After the fascist government left, I was able to bury my father in the orphanage he had founded, as per his last wishes. He asked everyone to pray for his father.
Assistant Professor Ibadur Rahman, Upazila Coordinator of Haris Chowdhury Foundation, Eminent Journalist Ehsanul Haque Jasim, General Secretary of Kanaighat Upazila BNP Saj Uddin Saju, Upazila BNP Publicity Secretary Faruk Ahmed, Upazila BNP Office Secretary Ruhul Amin,  Mustafa Kamal Haque of Union No. 1 of the Foundation, Mustafa Kamal of Union No. 2, Secretary of Union No. 3 Faruk Ahmed, Moynul Haque Chowdhury of Union No. 6, AKM Fazlul Haque of Union No. 4, spoke and was present at the meeting, which was chaired by Aminul Islam Chowdhury, President of Dighirpar East Union No. 3, and moderated by Assistant Coordinator Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, under the overall supervision of Tahirul Haque, Central Coordinator of Haris Chowdhury Foundation.
At this time, the speakers discussed various aspects of the active life of the late Abul Haris Chowdhury and said, “If it were not for Haris Chowdhury, even in a hundred years, there would not have been a Kanaighat municipality, there would not have been a Kanaighat bridge, and there would not have been electricity. He was a proud son of Kanaighat, a talented national politician.”
